There

adjustm

. Both are shim
adju
stm
ent.
(1) To
adjust
the
ball
thrus
t be
aring
on the cam to a
bar
ely p
er
ceptible
drag
loosen
the
two cap screws as indi
cat
ed by
arr
ow numb
er
(1)
, holding the
adju
sting
pad in
order to free
the
studs in the cam
gr
oove. Release the clamp
as
indicated by
arr
ow
number (2) of the oil s
eat
unit. Unscrew the four cap screws as indicated by
arrow
num
ber
(3)
and
move
out
cov
er
to p
ermit
removal of shims. (Shims
are
of .902",
.003", and 010"
thi
ckness. Clip and remove a
thin
shim
as
indi
cat
ed by a
rrow
(4) or
more as required.
Tight
en all fo
ur
cap screws. Te
st
adjus
tm
ent
and
if neces
sar
y re-
move
or
add
shims until
adjustm
ent
is correct. Replace cov
er
and
reset clamp of oil
seat unit
and
tighten.
(2) To
adju

backlash of

per
ed studs in cam groove so
that
a v
er
y slight
drag
is felt
when g
ear
is
turn
ed from extreme left position
or
extreme r
ight
po
sit
ion, or vise
versa. Remove
adjusting
pad as indicate d by

w numb
er
(5) to permit removal of
shims.

.010" thickness.) Remove one
thin
shim as indi-
cated by a

as requir ed. Reassemble pad and shims and tighten.
Test
adjustm
ent
and

adjustment is correct.

dirt

foreign

er.
WHEEL
ALIGNMENT OF STANDARD
WIDE
AXLE
TRACTOR - To check align-
ment,

that
th
e wheels
ar
e
fr
ee to
turn,
measure the di
stan
ce between the in-
sides of
th
e
tir
es
at
hub he
ight
, in
fr
o
nt
of the axle,
turn
each wheel exactly one-
half
turn
and m
easur
e between the sa me points behind
th
e axle. The measurement
ta
ken in
front
of the axle should be % less,
and
if
not, loosen the tie rods,
turn
each
one
th
e same amount and re-m
easur
e.
Turning
the wheels one half
turn
as describ-
ed above elim
inat
es
any
errors
due
to
weave in the wheel disc.
FRONT
WHE
EL BEARI NG A
DJUSTMENT
-
Fr
equently one should jack up each
front
wheel,
try
moving the wheel
fr
om side to side
and
if even the slightest
movement is
pr
es
ent
between the wheel and hub remove the hub cap and pull the
cotter pin. Then
tight
en the
adjusting
nut
while
at
the same
tim
e
turning
th
e wheel
by hand until
slight
binding is felt.
Th
e nut should
th
en be backed off until the cot-
ter pin will go in either the horizontal or ve
rt
ical hole in the spindle.
If
it happens
that
the binding is noticed just when t he cotter pin is in line with one castellation it
is b
ett
er
to back the
nut
off
until the next castellation is in line with the other
cott
er
pin hole to
pr
event the bearing from being too
tight
. Be sure to use a new
co
tt
er pin if any cracking is presen
t.
BE CAREFUL to keep d
irt
or other foreign
m
atter
out
of
th
e grease or hub cap, which may now be assembled. Occasionally
one should go ov
er
the
nuts
on the hu bs, radius rod end
and
st
e
ering
arms
to see if
they are tight.
