Do you have a question about the Comet XTREME and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes a range of electric cold water high-pressure cleaners, specifically the 1001, 1251, 1501, and XTREME models. It serves as an instruction manual for use and maintenance.

Function Description

The devices are electric cold water high-pressure cleaners designed for various cleaning tasks. They operate by pumping water at high pressure through a spray gun and lance, allowing for efficient removal of dirt, grime, rust, paint, and other encrustations from surfaces. The XTREME models offer additional features like an emergency stop button and a thermostatic valve for enhanced safety and performance.

Usage Features

  1. Safety Devices:

    • Ampere Cut-out Protection: Automatically (1001, 1251, 1501) or manually (XTREME) resettable. Stops the machine in case of excessive power absorption.
    • Pressure Unloader/Regulation Valve: Allows adjustment of working pressure and prevents dangerous overpressure.
    • Spray Gun Lever Lock Device: Safety stop (23) to lock the spray gun lever (22) in the closed position, preventing accidental operation.
    • Emergency Push Button (XTREME): Immediately stops the machine in hazardous situations. It has a mechanical retention and must be pulled upwards to reset.
    • Relief Valve (XTREME): Discharges excess pressure if the pressure regulating system malfunctions.
  2. Preliminary Activities:

    • Assembly: Connect the high-pressure hose (35) to the spray gun (24) and the quick-fit coupling (36) to the water outlet fitting (16). Insert the gasket (26) into the water inlet fitting (17) and screw on the hose-end fitting (25).
    • Water Supply: Fix a supply hose (19 mm/0.75 in ID for 1001/1251/1501, 30 mm for XTREME) to the water inlet hose-end fitting (25). Open the water supply tap (use a back-flow preventer if connected to drinking water mains) or place a suction hose in a tank.
    • Starting Procedure:
      • 1001/1251/1501 (without Total Stop): Move master switch (1) to "1".
      • 1001/1251/1501 (with Total Stop): Move master switch (1) to "1" and press/hold START button (21) until water comes out of the spray gun. The Total Stop device controls micro-leaks.
      • XTREME: Move master switch (1) to "1" (mains voltage LED (43) turns on). If emergency button (40) is pressed, pull it up to reset. Press START button (21).
    • Priming: Press spray gun lever (22) and wait for a continuous jet of water, indicating correct pump priming.
    • Connecting Lance: Connect the lance tube (33) to the spray gun (55) using the quick coupling (1001/1251/1501) or tighten the lance tube (29) to the spray gun (24) (1501 18/350, XTREME).
  3. Standard Operation (High Pressure):

    • Ensure the nozzle holder head (30) or device (32) is not in the detergent dispensing/low pressure position.
    • Open water supply.
    • Start the machine as per the starting procedure.
    • Press the spray gun lever (22) and check for a uniform, drip-free spray.
    • Adjust pressure using the pressure adjustment knob (8) (clockwise to increase, anticlockwise to decrease). Pressure value is shown on indicator (13).
    • To reduce pressure, use device (32) as shown in Fig. 3-a; to restore high pressure, use Fig. 3-b.
  4. Stopping Operation:

    • Temporary Interruption: If interrupting the jet without stopping the machine, engage the safety stop (23) on the spray gun.
      • 1001/1251/1501: Releasing the spray gun lever (22) puts the machine in by-pass mode, stopping automatically after ~15 seconds. Pressing the lever again resumes operation.
      • XTREME: Releasing the spray gun lever (22) stops the jet and puts the machine in by-pass. Pressing the lever again resumes operation.
    • Caution (XTREME): Do not leave in by-pass for more than 3 minutes; the thermostatic valve (48) will drain fluid to protect pump gaskets.
  5. Stopping the Machine:

    • Turn pressure regulation knob (8) anticlockwise to minimum pressure.
    • Close water supply or remove suction hose.
    • Drain water by operating the spray gun lever (22) for a few seconds.
    • Press STOP button (42) (XTREME).
    • Move master switch (1) to "0".
    • Remove power plug.
    • Discharge any residual pressure from the high-pressure hose by pressing the spray gun lever (22) for a few seconds.
    • Allow the machine to cool down.
  6. Decommissioning (Storage):

    • Disconnect spray gun (24) from high-pressure hose (35) and store it on supports (3).
    • Disconnect high-pressure hose from water outlet fitting (16), wind it carefully, avoiding bends.
    • Wind power cable (6) carefully, avoiding bends.
    • Store the high-pressure cleaner in a dry, clean place, ensuring no damage to hoses or cables.
    • Engage wheel brake (20) to prevent uncontrolled movement.
    • Note: After prolonged non-use, minor water dripping under the pump may occur, usually disappearing after a few hours. If it persists, contact a Specialized Technician.

Maintenance Features

Routine Maintenance:

  • Every Time Used:
    • Check power cable, high-pressure hose, fittings, spray gun, and lance hose for damage. If damaged, do not use and contact a Specialized Technician.
    • Check pump oil level with the motor off and machine cooled. Use indicator (50) or dipstick (14). Refer to "Specifications and Technical Data" for oil types if topping up is needed.
  • Weekly:
    • Clean water inlet filter (18). It's self-cleaning. Ensure the pressure washer is connected to water supply and tap is open. Turn knob (53) to allow water and dirt to flow out of opening (65). When fluid is clean, turn knob (53) in the opposite direction.
  • Monthly:
    • Clean water inlet filter (18) as above.
    • Clean the nozzle. Use cleaning pin (31) through the nozzle hole. If results are poor, replace the nozzle (available from authorized service centers). Nozzle can be replaced with a 14 mm box spanner.
    • Check soundness of water inlet and outlet circuits.
    • Check clamping of the pump to the engine and the engine to the frame. If insecure, do not use and contact a Specialized Technician.
  • Caution: During operation, the high-pressure cleaner should not be too noisy or show obvious water/oil drips. If so, have it checked by a Specialized Technician.

Special Maintenance:

Special maintenance must only be performed by a Specialized Technician.

  • Every 200 Hours:
    • Check the pump's hydraulic circuit.
    • Check pump clamping.
  • Every 500 Hours:
    • Change pump oil.
    • Check pump suction/delivery valves.
    • Check tightness of pump screws.
    • Check the pump regulation valve.
    • Check the safety devices.
  • Caution: Data in the table are approximate. More frequent maintenance may be needed for particularly heavy use.

Optional Accessories:

The standard fitting can be supplemented with various optional accessories:

  • Sandblasting lance: for smoothing surfaces, removing rust, paint, encrustations.
  • Drain cleaning kit: for unclogging pipes and ducts.
  • Different types of lances and nozzles.
  • Rotating brush: for cleaning fragile surfaces.
  • Rotating nozzle: for removing stubborn dirt.
  • Foam lance: for efficient detergent distribution.
  • Hose reel: for increased working range and practical storage.
