Remote ROM Flash
Your computer comes with reprogrammable flash ROM (Read
Only Memory). By establishing a setup password in Security
Management, you can protect the ROM from being
unintentionally updated or overwritten. This is important to
ensure computer operating integrity. Should you need or want to
upgrade your ROM, you may:
Order an upgraded ROMPaq diskette from Compaq.
Order the Support Software CD for Compaq Desktop,
Portable, and Workstation Products.
Download the latest ROMPaq images from the Compaq
World Wide Web site (www.compaq.com).
CAUTION:
For maximum ROM protection, be sure to establish a
setup password. The setup password prevents unauthorized ROM
upgrades.
Upgrading Flash ROM
To upgrade the ROM after you receive an upgraded ROMPaq
diskette, complete the following steps:
1. Turn off the Deskpro 4000N.
2. Connect a second computer to the Deskpro 4000N using
only a null modem cable connected to the serial ports on
the rear panels of both computers.
In order to use the second computer’s diskette drive as an
external diskette drive on the Deskpro 4000N, optional
Floppy Disk Software (FDS) must be installed on the
second computer. The software may be downloaded from
the Compaq World Wide Web site (www.compaq.com).
3. Turn on the second computer. With Windows running on
the second computer, run the FDS software.
4. Insert the ROMPaq diskette in the diskette drive on the
second computer.
5. Turn on the Deskpro 4000N.
6. Enter the setup password when prompted to do so.
