In
general,
when
a
lens
is
focused
on
any
given
subject,
not
only
the
subject
itself,
but
a
certain
area
in
front
of
and
behind
the
subject
will
also
be
in
focus.
That
area
is
called
“depth
of
field”
{see
p.
21).
The
depth-of-field
becomes
deeper
as
the
lens
aperture
is
closed,
and
becomes
shallower
as
the
aperture
is
opened.
This
characteristics
can
be
used
for
photos
in
which
both
subject
and
background
are
in
focus,
or
one
can
focus
attention
on
the
main
subject
and
blur
the
background.
Select
the
aperture
value
in
accordance
with
the
needs
of
your
photographic
composition.
When
using
the
aperture-priority
mode,
the
lens
aperture
is
set
manually;
the
camera
measures
the
light
on
the
subject
and
automatically
sets
the
correct
shutter
speed.
The
viewfinder
display
will
show
the
shutter
speed
automatically
set
by
the
camera
in
response
to
the
user-selected
aperture.
