  If your Craftsman Trimmer engine won't start, several factors could be the reason. First, make sure the fuel tank isn't empty; if it is, fill it with properly-mixed fuel. Ensure you've pressed the primer bulb 10 times. If the engine is flooded, press the throttle lockout, squeeze the throttle control, and pull the starter rope until the engine starts. Old or improperly mixed fuel can also be a culprit; drain the tank and add fresh fuel. A fouled spark plug should be replaced. Also, make sure that the choke lever was flipped according to the Starting Instructions.

How to fix a Craftsman WS230 cutting head that will not advance line?

  If the cutting head on your Craftsman Trimmer won't advance the line, several issues could be at play. Start by stopping the engine and cleaning the cutting head if it's bound with grass. Check if the cutting head is out of line and replace the air filter. If the inner reel is bound up, refill the cutting head with new line. For a dirty cutting head, rewind the line. If the line is welded, open the cutting head and remove the welded section. If the line is twisted, rewind it. Also, make sure enough line is extended: stop the unit, push the bump knob, and pull the line until about 4 inches are outside the cutting head.
