How to troubleshoot why my Craftsman WS430 engine will not start?
    • C
      Christopher DixonAug 4, 2025
If your Craftsman Trimmer engine won't start, several factors could be at play. First, ensure the fuel tank isn't empty by filling it with fresh fuel. If the fuel is older than 30 days, drain the tank and refill it. Make sure you've pressed the primer bulb 10 times. Lastly, inspect the spark plug; if it's fouled, replace it.

Why the cutting head will not advance line (bump head) on my Craftsman WS430?
    • T
      Theresa WatsonAug 9, 2025
If the cutting head on your Craftsman Trimmer isn't advancing the line (bump head), there are several possible reasons. The cutting head may be bound with grass, so stop the engine and clean it. It might be out of line, requiring you to refill it with a new line. The inner reel could be bound up or dirty, so clean the inner reel and outer spool. The line could be welded, in which case you should open the cutting head and remove the welded section. The line might also be twisted, so rewind it. Finally, not enough line may be extended; stop the unit, push the bump knob, and pull the line until 4 inches (102 mm) is outside of the cutting head.

What to do if my Craftsman WS430 engine lacks power or stalls?
    • J
      Jennifer TaylorAug 14, 2025
If your Craftsman Trimmer engine lacks power or stalls, the issue might stem from old fuel (over 30 days old), a dirty air filter, or a fouled spark plug. Try draining the fuel tank and adding fresh fuel. If that doesn't work, clean or replace the air filter. As a last resort, replace the spark plug.

If the cutting line on your Craftsman Trimmer is advancing uncontrollably, it might be due to oil, cleaner, or lubricant in the cutting head. Clean and thoroughly dry the cutting head to resolve this issue.

What to do if my Craftsman WS430 engine will not accelerate?
    • J
      Jason FernandezAug 25, 2025
If your Craftsman Trimmer engine will not accelerate, consider these potential causes: old fuel (over 30 days), a cutting head bound with grass, or a dirty air filter. To resolve this, drain the fuel tank and add fresh fuel. Also, stop the engine and clean the cutting head. Lastly, try cleaning or replacing the air filter.

How to troubleshoot why my Craftsman WS430 engine will not idle?
    • A
      Antonio MillerAug 29, 2025
If your Craftsman Trimmer engine won't idle, the problem could be a dirty air filter, old fuel (over 30 days), or an incorrect idle speed. Try cleaning or replacing the air filter. If that doesn't help, drain the fuel tank and add fresh fuel. As a final step, adjust the idle speed.
