Why won't my Craftsman Trimmer start?

  If your Craftsman Trimmer engine won't start, several factors could be the cause. The fuel tank might be empty, so fill it with properly-mixed fuel. You may also need to press the primer bulb 10 times or until fuel is visible. If the engine is flooded, move the choke lever to Position 3, press the throttle lockout, squeeze the throttle control, and pull the starter rope until the engine starts. Old or improperly mixed fuel can also prevent starting; drain the tank and add fresh fuel. Lastly, a fouled spark plug can be the culprit, so replace it.

Alternatively, the cutting head could be out of line, requiring you to refill it with new line. The inner reel might be bound up, so clean the inner reel and outer spool. A dirty cutting head can also cause this, so open it and remove any welded sections. If the line is welded, rewind it. If the line is twisted, stop the unit, push the bump knob, and pull the line until 4 inches (102 mm) extends outside the cutting head. Lastly, if not enough line is extended, clean and thoroughly dry the cutting head.
