6. Chargingcanbestoppedatanytimebydisconnectingthecharger’s AC cord.Alwaysdisconnectthe AC cordbefore
disconnectingthebatteryleads.Whenyoustopcharging a batteryinstalledin a vehicleyoushouldalwaysdisconnectthebattery
leadfromthechassisbeforedisconnectingtheotherbatterylead.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR MULTI XT 14000 AND XT 14000
Pleasenotethatthebatterypackinthe 24Vsysteminmostcasesconsistsofmorethanonebattery.Theyarelinkeduptothe
24Vsystem,buttheindividualbatteriesgenerally have a lowervoltage.Thereforeitisimportantforthechargertobeconnected
correctly.
BATTERY TYPES AND SETTINGS
The XS 25000 and XT 14000 are programmed according to “PROGRAM DESCRIPTION” with xed settings.MULTIXS 2500and
MULTIXT14000caneasilybesetfordifferenttypesofbatteriesorconditions.Thefollowingrecommendationsshould,however,
onlybeseenasguidelines.Pleaseconsultthebatterymanufacturerforfurtherinstructions.
Settings are made by pressing the “MODE-button “ and stepping forward one press at a time until the required mode is reached,
thebuttonisthenreleased.Afterabout 2 secondsthechargeractivatestheselectedmode.Theselectedmodeis saved in a 
memoryinthechargerandremainsthereevenifthechargerisdisconnectedfrombatteryandmains.
NORMAL
NORMAL - Normalsettingforwetbatteries,maintenancefreeandformostGelbatteries.SomeGelbatteries
prefer a slightlylowerchargingvoltage.Pleaseconsultthebatterymanufacturerwhenindoubt.
SUPPLY
SUPPLY - Thechargeroperatesat a constantvoltage.Thisisthemaintenancemodeforapplicationswhere
maximum capacity from the battery is important, like oor sweepers and golf carts. Note that the Spark
protectionfunctionissuppressedinthismode.
RECOND
RECOND - This mode is used to recover deep discharged ooded batteries where you could expect a
stratied acid (high acid weight in the bottom, low on top). Check with battery manufacturer when in doubt.
Usethismodewith care, becausethehighvoltagewillcausesomewaterloss.16Visnormallynoproblemfor
electronicsin 12V system,or 32V in 24Vsystem.Consultyoursupplierwhenindoubt.Lifeoflightbulbswill
bereducedathighervoltage.Trytodisconnectlightfromthebatteryduringthisphase.Maximumeffectand
minimumriskforelectronicsisachievedbycharging a disconnectedbattery.
CHARGING PHASES
MULTIXS 25000,XS 25000,MULTIXT14000andXT14000chargesandanalysesineightfullyautomaticsteps.
MULTIXS 25000andMULTIXT14000 have threedifferentoperatingmodes,seeBatteryTypesandSettings.
The battery charger has an 8-step fully automatic charging cycle:
Desulphation
Desulphationwithpulsesrecoverssulphatedbatteries.Indicateswithlamp1.
Soft start (Lamp 1)
Startmodeforthechargingcycle.Thestartphasecontinuesuntilthebattery’sterminalvoltagehasrisenabovethesetlimit,at
whichpointthechargerswitchestobulkcharging.Iftheterminalvoltagehasnotpassedthevoltagelimitwithinthetimelimit,the
chargerswitchestofaultmode(lamp0)anddiscontinuesthecharging.Ifso,thebatteryisfaultyoritscapacityistoolarge.
Bulk (Lamp 2)
Mainchargewhen80%ofchargingtakesplace.Thechargerdeliversmaximumcurrentuntil
theterminalvoltagehasrisentothe
setlevel.Bulkhas a maximumtime,atwhichpointthechargerautomaticallyswitchestoAbsorption.
Absorption (Lamp 3)
Completechargeuptovirtually100%.Theterminalvoltageismaintainedatthesetlevel.Duringthisphasethecurrenttaperssuc-
cessively.Oncethecurrenthastaperedtothesetlimit,thisphaseswitchestobeingtimed.IfthetotaltimeforAbsorptionexceeds
thetimelimitthechargerautomaticallyswitchestomaintenance.
Analysis (Lamp 3)
Testingself-discharge.Ifself-dischargeistoohigh,chargingisdiscontinuedandfaultmodeisindicated.
Maintenance charging - Float (Lamp 4)
Chargingatconstantvoltage.
Maintenance charging - Pulse (Lamp 4)
Stateofchargevariesbetween95%and100%.Thebatteryreceives a pulsewhenthevoltagedropsandkeepsthebatteryin
perfectconditionwhenitisnotinuse.Thechargercanbeconnectedformonthsat a time.Thechargercontinuouslymeasures
theterminalvoltagetodeterminewhether a chargingpulseshouldbeinitiated.Ifthebatteryisloadedand/orthebattery’sterminal
voltagedropsthechargerstarts a chargingpulseuntiltheterminalvoltagereachesthesetlevel.Thechargingpulseisthen
discontinued and the cycle is repeated innitely. If the terminal voltage drops below a lower limit, the charger automatically goes
backtothebeginningofthechargingcurve.
