The CTEK PRO15S is a fully automatic battery charger designed for both lead-acid and lithium batteries. It serves to maximize battery performance through a sophisticated charging process.
Function Description:
The CTEK PRO15S is a professional switch-mode battery charger that provides various charging programs for different battery types and conditions. It is capable of charging 12V lead-acid batteries ranging from 28-300Ah and 12V lithium batteries (LiFePO4, Li-Fe, Li-iron, LFP) from 20-280Ah. The charger features an automatic temperature sensor that adjusts the charging voltage to the ambient temperature, ensuring optimal charging conditions. It also includes reverse polarity protection to prevent damage to the battery or charger if clamps are incorrectly connected.
The charger offers several programs:
- Normal Battery Program (Lead-Acid): A standard charging program at 14.4V/15A for lead-acid batteries.
- Recond Program (Lead-Acid): A specialized program (15.8V/1.5A) designed to return energy to empty WET and Ca/Ca batteries, maximize lifetime and capacity, and address deep discharge. It adds a reconditioning step to the normal battery program.
- Lithium Program: A dedicated program (13.8V/15A) for lithium batteries, operating within a temperature range of 0°C to +40°C (32°F to 104°F).
- Supply Program: This program (13.6V/15A) functions as a 12V power supply or for float maintenance charging when 100% battery capacity is required. In this mode, the spark protection on the battery charger is disabled.
The charging process for lead-acid batteries involves eight steps:
- Desulphation: Detects sulphated batteries and removes sulphate from lead plates using pulsing current and voltage.
- Soft Start: Tests if the battery can accept charge, preventing charging of defective batteries.
- Bulk: Charges with maximum current until approximately 80% capacity.
- Absorption: Charges with declining current to maximize up to 100% capacity.
- Analyse: Tests if the battery can hold charge, indicating if replacement is needed.
- Recond (optional): Increases voltage to create controlled gassing, mixing battery acid and restoring energy.
- Float: Maintains maximum battery voltage with a constant voltage charge.
- Pulse: Maintains 95-100% capacity by monitoring voltage and providing pulses when necessary.
For lithium batteries, the charging process also involves eight steps:
- Accept: Tests if the battery can accept charge, preventing charging of defective batteries.
- Bulk: Charges with maximum current until approximately 90% capacity.
- Absorption: Charges with declining current to maximize up to 95% capacity.
- Analyse: Tests if the battery can hold charge, indicating if replacement is needed.
- Completion: Final charge with reduced current.
- Maximization: Final charge with maximum voltage up to 100% capacity.
- Float: Maintains maximum battery voltage with a constant voltage charge.
- Pulse: Maintains 95-100% capacity by monitoring voltage and providing pulses when necessary.

Usage Features:
- Fully Automatic Operation: Simplifies the charging process, requiring minimal user intervention after program selection.
- MODE Button: Used to select the desired charging program (Normal, Lithium, Supply, Recond). The selected program activates after approximately two seconds and restarts automatically the next time the charger is connected.
- Indication Lamps: Provide visual feedback on the charging process (Empty, Charging, Fully Charged) and error conditions.
- Error Lamp: Illuminates to indicate issues such as incorrect clamp connection, non-12V battery, short-circuited terminals, or interrupted charging.
- Power Lamp: Indicates mains cable connection (steady light) or energy save mode/low battery voltage (flashing light).
- Temperature Sensor: Automatically adjusts charging voltage based on ambient temperature for optimal performance. It should be placed in the positive clamp or as close to the battery as possible.
- "Wake Up" Function for Lithium Batteries: For lithium-ion batteries with Under Voltage Protection (UVP), the charger offers automatic and manual "wake up" options to bypass the UVP and initiate charging. The automatic wake-up lasts for a maximum of 5 minutes, indicated by a flashing LED. A manual wake-up can be initiated by pressing the Mode button for approximately 10 seconds.
Maintenance Features:
- Recond Program: Helps to restore the capacity and maximize the lifetime of lead-acid batteries, especially after deep discharge. Recommended once per year.
- Sulphation Detection and Removal: The Desulphation step actively works to restore battery capacity by removing sulphate from lead plates.
- Battery Analysis: The Analyse step in both lead-acid and lithium programs checks if the battery can hold a charge, providing an early indication if a battery needs replacement.
- Float and Pulse Maintenance: These final steps ensure the battery is maintained at optimal capacity (95-100%) for extended periods, preventing self-discharge and prolonging battery life.
