andextremelytallgrass.Yourtractoris designedto
mowlawns,notclearbrush.
. Keepthebladessharpand replacethebladeswhen
worn.RefertoCuttingBladesonpage25of this
manualforproperbladesharpeninginstructions.
IMPORTANT:Whenstoppingthetractorforany reason
whileona grasssurface,always
* Placetheshiftleverin neutral,
. Engagethe parkingbrake,
. Shutengineoff andremovethe key.
Doingsowillminimizethepossibilityofhavingyourlawn
"browned"byhot exhaustfromyourtractor'srunning
engine.
Mulching
Thei1000seriestractordecksareequippedwitha
mulchingkit.Themulchkitwhichincorporatesspecial
blades,alreadyon yourtractor,ina processof recirculating
grassclippingsrepeatedlybeneaththe cuttingdeck.The
ultra-fineclippingsarethenforcedbackintothe lawnwhere
theyactasa naturalfertilizer.
Observethefollowingpointsfor bestresultswhenmulching:
. Neverattemptto mulchif the lawnis damp.Wetgrass
tendsto sticktothe undersideof the cuttingdeck
preventingpropermulchingoftheclippings.
. Do notattemptto mulchmorethan 1/3the totalheight
ofthegrassor approximately1-1/2inches.Doingso
willcausetheclippingstoclumpup beneaththe deck
andnotbemulchedeffectively.
. Maintaina slowgroundspeedto allowthe grass
clippingsmoretimetoeffectivelybe mulched.
. AlwayspositionthrottlecontrolleverintheFAST(rabbit)
positionandallowittoremaintherewhilemowing.Failing
tokeeptheengineatfullthrottleplacesstrainonthe
tractor'sengineanddoesnotallowthebladestoproperly
mulchgrass.
NOTE: It is not necessaryto removethe chutedeflector
tooperatethe mowerwiththe mulchpluginstalled.
Themulchpluginstalledatthefactorywasremoved
earlierinthe"SettingupyourLawnTractor"section.To
reinstallthemulchingplug,proceedasfollows:
Installing Mulching Plug on 46" Decks ONLY
Raiseandholdthechutedeflectorinupposition.
° Locatethe1/4inchholeinthetopofthemulchingplug.
Withtheholefacingupwardinsertthemulchingplugfully
intothedischargeopeningofthedeck.
° Alignthemulchingplugholewiththeholeinthetopof the
deckdischarge.Insertthecarriageboltthroughthetopof
thedeckandthemulchingplugandsecurewiththewing
nut.RefertoFigure2onpage9
Installing Mulching Plug on 50" Decks ONLY
Pivotthechutedeflectorup to accessthe deck
dischargeopening.
° Locatetwonotchesinthechutedeflectorhingebracket
abovethedeckdischargeopening.
° Insertthemulchplugintothedeckdischargeopening.
Makesurethetwotabsonthetopoftheplugareinthe
notchesofthehingebracket.Lightlytap on theplugwith
yourhandtoassurethatthetabsfitsnuglyintothe
notches.
° Whileholdingthemulchingplugin position,fullylower
thechutedeflector.
WARNING:Themowingdeckis capable
ofthrowing objects.Neveroperatethe
mowerdeckwithoutthechutedeflector
in its downposition,evenwiththe
mulchingpluginstalled.Failureto doso
couldresultinseriouspersonalinjury
and/orpropertydamage.
