Maintaining Your Lawn Tractor
WARNING:Beforeperformingany
maintenanceor repairs,disengage

and removekeyto preventunintended
starting.
Checking Engine Oil Level
Checkengineoillevelbeforeeachuse as follows:
Placethetractoron a flatsurfaceand stopthe
engine.Allowtheenginetocool longenoughfor the
oilto drainintotheenginesump.
Cleantheareaaroundthe oildipstick!fillcap.
Unscrewthedipstick/fillcap fromthe fill tube onthe
engine.Removethedipstickandwipethe oiloff.
Reinsertthe dipstickinto thetubeandrestthe cap
onthetube.Do notscrewthecaponto thetube.See

Pullthedipstickoutandcheckthe oil level.The oil
levelshouldbeupto, but notover,the "FULL"of"F'
markon the dipstick.See Figure16.

If the levelis low,addoil ofthepropertype(See
ChartBelow),uptothe"FULl_"or"F" markon the
dipstick.Alwayscheckthe levelwiththedipstick
beforeaddingmoreoil.Donotoverfill the crank-
case.

IMPORTANT:Neveroperatetheenginewiththeoil level

Changing Engine Oil & Filter
Changethe engineoiland oilfilterafterevery100hours
ofoperation.
Runtheenginefor a shorttimeto warmthe engine
oil.Theoil willflow morefreelyandcarryawaymore
impurities.
Locatetheoildrainvalveon the rightsideof the
engine,beneaththe startermotor.Referto Figure15.
Popopenthe protectivecap onthe endof the oil
drainvalvetoexposethedrainport. Pushtheoil drain
hose(packedwiththismanual)ontotheoil drainport.
Routetheoppositeendof the hoseintoanappropriate
oilcollectioncontainerwitha capacitygreatenoughto
collecttheusedoil.
Removetheoil fill cap/dipstickfromthe oil filltube.
Pushthedrainvalvein slightlyandturn counterclock-
wiseuntilit stop,thenpullthe valvefullyoutwardto
openthevalveanddraintheoil.SeeFigure17.

Aftertheoil hasfinisheddraining,pushtheoil drain
valvebackin,rotateit clockwisetolockthevalve
closed.Removethedrainhoseandre-capthe endof
theoildrainvalvetokeepdebrisfromentering.
Fromtheleft sideof the engine,removetheoil filter
usinganautomotivetypeoil filterwrench(SeeFigure
18).Wipe thefilteradapterwitha cleancloth.
Placethenewoilfilterin a shallowpanwithopenend
up.Pournewoil,ofthepropertype,intothecenter
threadedhole.Stoppouringwhentheoil reachesthe
