DrivingBrake assist systems
153
Brake assist systems cannot prevent an ac-
cident if you are driving too close to other
vehicles.
Always use suitable tyres. Driving stability
depends on tyre grip.
Always leave the area under the pedals
free so that the brake pedal can move unhin-
dered.
WARNING
The eiciency of the ESC can be signicantly
reduced if components or systems that af-
fect the driving dynamics are not properly
maintained or are not working properly. This
can particularly occur if changes are made
to the suspension or unauthorised rim/tyre
combinations are used.
Ensure that vehicle conversions and modi-
cations are only made by specialised work-
shops.
Always use suitable tyres. Driving stability
depends on tyre grip.
WARNING
When driving without a brake servo or with
restricted brake servo functions, the braking
distance can increase considerably and can
cause accidents and serious injuries.
If the brake servo is not working, the brake
pedal has to be pressed harder, as the brak-
ing distance increases due to the lack of as-
sistance from the servo brake.
Always leave the area under the pedals
free so that the brake pedal can move unhin-
dered.
Connecting and disconnecting the
ESC and TCS
The ESC is switched on automatically when the
engine is started, and only works when the en-
gine is running and includes the ABS, EDS and
TCS systems.
Disconnecting and connecting the ESC in
“Sport” mode
The ECS in “Sport” mode can be turned on
or o in the infotainment system: press the
function button > Assistants > ESC menu
››› page 36.
When “Sport” mode is connected, the inter-
ventions of the ESC to stabilise the vehicle,
and the traction control (TCS) interventions
are limited. In addition, the control lamp
lights up on the instrument cluster.
Disconnecting and connecting the ESC
The ESC can be switched on and o in the
infotainment system: press > Assistants >
ESC Menu ››› page 36.
When the ESC is disconnected the control
warning lamp lights up on the instrument
cluster.
WARNING
The ESC Sport mode should be activated only
when traic conditions and the ability of the
driver allow it. Danger of skidding!
With ESC in Sport mode, the stabilising
function will be limited to allow for a sportier
drive. The vehicle may skid.
If the ESC is deactivated, the vehicle stabili-
sation function is not available.
Note
If “Sport” mode is selected, the speed regu-
lator is disconnected.
