Wheels and tyresTyre pressure monitor system
Tyres with directional tread pattern
Tyres with directional tread pattern have been
designed to operate best when rotating in only
one direction. An arrow on the tyre sidewall
indicates the direction of rotation on tyres with
directional tread. Always observe the indicated
direction of rotation in order to guarantee op-
timum grip and help avoid aquaplaning, exces-
sive noise and wear.
If the tyre is mounted in the opposite direction
of rotation, drive with extreme caution, as the
tyre is no longer being used correctly. This is of
particular importance when the road surface is
wet. Change the tyre as soon as possible or re-
mount it with the correct direction of rotation.
Works after changing a wheel
•
Replace the wheel bolt caps.
•
Return all tools to their proper storing loca-
tion.
•
If the replaced wheel does not t in the spare
wheel housing, store it safely in the luggage
compartment
›››
page 260.
•
Check the tyre pressure of the newly moun-
ted tyre as soon as possible.
•
In vehicles tted with a tyre pressure indica-
tor, adjust the pressure and store it in memory
››› page 303.
•
Have the tightening torque of the wheel nuts
checked as soon as possible with a torque
wrench ››› page 302. Meanwhile, drive care-
fully.
•
Have the at tyre replaced as quickly as pos-
sible.

Control lamp
It lights up
The ination pressure of one or more
wheels is much lower than the value
set by the driver, or the tyre has structural
damage.
In addition, a audible warning sounds and
a text message is displayed on the instru-
ment panel screen.
Stop the vehicle! Stop the vehicle
safely as soon as possible. Check all
tyres and pressures. Replace any damaged
tyres.
Flashes
System fault
The control lamp ashes for approxi-
mately 1 minute and then lights up perma-
nently.
If the tyre is
inated correctly, switch
the ignition o and on again. Re-cali-
brate the tyre pressure monitor indicator
››› page 303. If the fault continues, go to
a specialised workshop.
Several control and warning lamps light up for
a few seconds when the ignition is switched on
while the function is veried. They will switch
o after a few seconds.
WARNING
Observe the safety warnings ››› page 19.

The tyre pressure monitoring system compares
the individual speeds of each wheel and thus
the dynamic radius with the help of the ABS
sensors.
