Overview

The Dacor Renaissance 36-inch Gas Range (model RNRP36GS) is a high-performance cooking appliance designed for residential use, combining advanced features with a sleek design. It offers both a versatile cooktop and a multi-functional oven, catering to a wide range of culinary needs.

Function Description

The range features a gas cooktop with multiple burners and a gas oven, providing comprehensive cooking capabilities. The cooktop is equipped with various burner types to accommodate different cooking styles, from simmering delicate sauces to searing meats at high heat. The oven offers multiple cooking modes, including conventional bake, convection bake, broil, and convection broil, allowing for precise temperature control and even heat distribution for various dishes.

Usage Features

Cooktop:

The cooktop is designed for flexibility and ease of use. It includes a combination of standard burners and SimmerSear™ burners. The SimmerSear™ burners provide a wide range of heat settings, from a very low simmer (800 BTU) to a powerful sear (18,000 BTU), offering precise control for delicate tasks and high-heat cooking. Standard burners offer up to 15,000 BTU.

Each burner is controlled by a dedicated knob, which illuminates when the burner is in use, thanks to the Illumina™ feature. To light a burner, the user pushes in the knob and turns it counter-clockwise to the HIGH position. An igniter sparks repeatedly, producing a "clicking" sound, until the burner lights within four seconds. The Perma-Flame™ instant re-ignition feature automatically re-lights a burner if the flame goes out, ensuring an uninterrupted cooking experience. The Smart Flame™ technology reduces the temperature under the grate support fingers, protecting the finish and extending grate life.

The cooktop also supports the use of an optional griddle, which can be placed over the center burners for even heating. The griddle has a non-stick coating and a grease trap for convenient cooking and cleaning. When using the griddle, the center front and rear burner knobs should be set to the MAX GRIDDLE position.

Oven:

The oven offers seven rack positions, providing flexibility for different cooking needs. It comes with two chrome-plated adjustable GlideRack™ oven racks, which slide out effortlessly, even with heavy items, for easy access to food. The oven also includes an oven light, controlled by a switch on the control panel, to monitor cooking progress without opening the door.

The oven control knob, located in the center of the control panel, is used to turn on the oven and select cooking modes and temperatures. The oven ON indicator light illuminates when the oven is on and cycles on and off to indicate that the set temperature is being maintained.

  • Bake: This mode uses the bottom bake burner for conventional baking. Temperatures can be set from 200°F to 500°F.
  • Convection Bake: This mode combines the bake burner with a convection fan to circulate heated air evenly, ideal for single-rack baking in deep pans and roasting. It helps prevent taste transfer when cooking multiple dishes.
  • Broil: This mode uses the top infrared (IR) broil burner for grilling smaller cuts of meat and toasting breads. Dacor recommends using rack levels 4 or 5 for broiling. The oven door should be completely shut during broiling.
  • Convection Broil: This mode uses the broil burner with the convection fan for better heat distribution, suitable for items that do not need to be flipped, such as thinner cuts of meat, fish, and garlic bread. The oven door must be closed during convection broiling.
  • Warm: A dedicated setting on the oven control knob to keep cooked food warm.

The oven requires a "burn-off" period before first use to eliminate manufacturing residues, which involves operating the oven at BROIL for 10 minutes, then at 350°F for 30 minutes.

Maintenance Features

The Dacor Renaissance Gas Range is designed with features that simplify cleaning and maintenance, ensuring its longevity and optimal performance.

Self-Clean Feature:

The oven is equipped with a self-clean cycle that heats the oven to a very high temperature, burning off food deposits. This eliminates the need for manual scrubbing of interior surfaces. The self-clean process takes approximately 2.5 hours. During this cycle, the oven door automatically locks for safety and remains locked until the oven cools to below 600°F (315°C). Before initiating self-clean, all oven racks, cookware, and the convection filter must be removed. Excess grease and food spills should be wiped up with a damp cloth to minimize smoke and increase efficiency.

Cooktop Cleaning:

The cooktop components, including grates, spill trays, burner caps, and burner rings, are removable for easy cleaning.

  • Grates and Spill Trays: These porcelain-coated cast iron parts can be cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft cloth or non-abrasive pad for everyday cleaning. For tough stains, full-strength sprays like Simple Green™ or Ajax™ All-Purpose Cleaner can be used. Mildly abrasive cleaners like Soft Scrub™ or Bon Ami™ can be used sparingly for stubborn stains, but aggressive use should be avoided to prevent damage to the finish.
  • Burner Components: Burner caps, rings, and bases should be cleaned regularly. The igniters, made of fragile porcelain, require careful cleaning with a firm toothbrush and rubbing alcohol to dissolve grime, avoiding water. Any dirt or grime in the burner holes should be removed with a straightened paper clip or needle. All burner parts must be thoroughly dried before reassembly to ensure proper ignition.
  • Griddle: The non-stick griddle should be cleaned after each use with warm soapy water and liquid detergent. A non-abrasive plastic mesh pad can be used for stubborn spots.

Exterior Surfaces:

  • Stainless Steel: The exterior stainless steel surfaces should be wiped with Dacor Stainless Steel Cleaner (or a mild detergent and water) in the direction of the grain, then rinsed and dried with a soft, lint-free cloth. A small amount of baby oil can be applied to restore luster.
  • Brass, Chrome, and Copper: These surfaces can be cleaned in the same manner as stainless steel.
  • Door Glass: Clean with a solution of mild detergent and hot water, or a mild glass cleaner, and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Oven Racks:

The chrome-plated oven racks can be cleaned with a solution of detergent and hot water. For heavy soil, a solution of 1 cup ammonia to 2 gallons of water can be used. The racks should not be left in the oven during the self-clean cycle.

Convection Filter:

The stainless steel convection filter should be removed regularly for cleaning. It can be soaked in hot soapy water and must be completely dry before re-installation. The filter should only be removed when cool.

Oven Light Replacement:

The halogen light bulb (Dacor part number 108774) is considered a homeowner maintenance operation. Before replacing, the power cord must be disconnected, and the light fixture must be cool. Users should avoid touching the new halogen bulb with bare fingers, as oils can cause premature failure. The lens cover protects the bulb and must be properly aligned during re-installation.

General Safety and Care:

The manual emphasizes the importance of reading all safety instructions before use, ensuring proper installation of the anti-tip bracket, and never using the range as a space heater. It also advises against using abrasive cleaners on porcelain surfaces and warns about potential damage from acidic food spills if left on the cooktop. Regular cleaning and maintenance, as outlined, are crucial for the range's performance and appearance over time.
