Precautions for New Refrigerant (R-410A) ESIE09-08A
282 Precautions for New Refrigerant (R-410A)
1.2 Refrigerant Cylinders
Cylinder specifications
The cylinder is painted refrigerant color (pink).
The cylinder valve is equipped with a siphon tube.
Handling of cylinders
(1) Laws and regulations
R-410A is liquefied gas, and the High-Pressure Gas Safety Law must be observed in handling them.
Before using, refer to the High-Pressure Gas Safety Law.
The Law stipulates standards and regulations that must be followed to prevent accidents with high-
pressure gases. Be sure to follow the regulations.
(2) Handing of vessels
Since R-410A is high-pressure gas, it is contained in high-pressure vessels.
Although those vessels are durable and strong, careless handling can cause damage that can lead to
unexpected accidents. Do not drop vessels, let them fall, apply impact or roll them on the ground.
(3) Storage
Although R-410A is not flammable, it must be stored in a well-ventilated, cool, and dark place in the
same way as any other high-pressure gases.
It should also be noted that high-pressure vessels are equipped with safety devices that releases gas
when the ambient temperature reaches more than a certain level (fusible plug melts) and when the
pressure exceeds a certain level (spring-type safety valve operates).
Refrigerant can be charged in liquid state with cylinder in
upright position.
Caution: Do not lay cylinder on its side during charging, since
it cause refrigerant in gas state to enter the system.
