Overview

This document describes the Daikin Room Air Conditioner Optional Slender Remote Controller, model BRC944A2B, providing essential information for its safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and installation.

Function Description

The BRC944A2B remote controller serves as the primary interface for controlling Daikin room air conditioners. It allows users to:

  • Power On/Off: Start and stop the air conditioner system.
  • Mode Selection: Choose between various operation modes including Automatic, DRY, Cooling, and Heating.
  • Temperature Adjustment: Set the desired room temperature within specified ranges for different modes.
  • Airflow Rate Adjustment: Control the fan speed with five available levels, from "low" to "high," plus an "automatic" setting. Note that airflow rate cannot be adjusted in DRY mode.
  • Airflow Direction Adjustment (Swing): Control the vertical and, for some models, horizontal movement of the airflow direction blades to optimize comfort.
  • Timer Operation: Program the air conditioner to turn on or off automatically at specified times. This includes:
    • One-time Timer: For single on/off events, useful for specific occasions or weekends.
    • Daily Timer: For recurring on/off events, suitable for daily routines or weekdays, allowing up to two pairs of ON and OFF time settings.
  • Clock Setting: Set and display the current time, which is crucial for accurate timer operation.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Temperature Adjustment Range:
    • Cooling: Recommended 26~28°C (Adjustable within a wider range, but these are recommended for efficiency).
    • Heating: Recommended 20~22°C (Adjustable within a wider range).
    • DRY: Temperature cannot be adjusted.
  • Airflow Rate Levels: Five levels plus automatic (not adjustable in DRY mode).
  • Clock Accuracy: ±30 seconds per month.
  • Timer Increment/Decrement: Timer settings change in 10-minute increments or decrements.
  • Operating Conditions (Environmental Limits):
    • Cooling: Outdoor temp: -10 to 46°C, Room temp: 18 to 32°C, Indoor humidity: Less than 80%.
    • DRY: Outdoor temp: -10 to 46°C, Room temp: 18 to 32°C, Indoor humidity: Less than 80%.
    • Heating: Outdoor temp: -15 to 20°C, Room temp: Less than 27°C.
    • Operation outside these limits may trigger safety devices or cause dew formation and dripping from the indoor unit.

Usage Features

  • Display: The remote controller features an LCD display that shows the operating conditions, including current time, set temperature, operation mode, airflow rate, and timer status. A run indicator lamp (green) illuminates when the unit is operating.
  • User-Friendly Interface: Clearly labeled buttons for ON/OFF, Mode, Fan, Swing, Timer, Set, Up/Down (for temperature and time), and One Time/Daily timer selection.
  • Timer Programming:
    • One-time Timer: Allows setting a single ON time, OFF time, or both. If only one is set, the other can be saved as "----:--".
    • Daily Timer: Allows programming up to two pairs of ON and OFF times (Timer 1 and Timer 2) for repeated daily operation.
    • Timer Cancellation: Timer settings can be easily cleared from the display.
    • Timer Memory: Programmed timer settings are retained even after cancellation or power interruption (unless the circuit breaker is activated or power fails, in which case the clock needs resetting).
  • Automatic Operation: In "Automatic" mode, the system automatically selects DRY, Cooling, or Heating based on room and outdoor temperatures for optimal comfort and efficiency.
  • DRY Operation: Specifically designed to remove humidity from the air. Users may experience cool or warm air, and airflow direction may need manual adjustment.
  • Heating Operation Considerations:
    • Heating capacity decreases with lower outdoor temperatures. Supplementary heating may be needed in very cold conditions.
    • It takes time to heat an entire room due to hot air circulation.
    • Defrosting operation may occur in cold weather, temporarily reducing heating capacity and stopping hot air output.
  • Airflow Direction:
    • Wall Mounted Types (without horizontal swing): Vertical blades move up and down.
    • Wall Mounted Types (with horizontal swing): Both vertical and horizontal blades can swing. Vertical blades move up/down, and horizontal blades move left/right. Only one swing function (vertical or horizontal) can be active at a time.
    • Duct Connected Type: Swing function is not available.
    • Optimization: For cooling/DRY, horizontal blades should be near horizontal. For heating, they should be tilted downward to enhance efficiency. Avoid manual adjustment of blades on models with remote-controlled swing to prevent malfunction.
  • Energy Saving Tips:
    • Avoid excessive cooling or heating; maintain moderate room temperatures (26-28°C for cooling, 20-22°C for heating).
    • Use blinds or curtains to block direct sunlight and drafts.
    • Regularly clean air filters to maintain efficiency.

Maintenance Features

  • Remote Controller Cleaning: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use water hotter than 40°C, volatile liquids (benzine, gasoline, thinner), polishing powder, or scrub brushes.
  • Air Conditioner Unit Maintenance (Long-term Storage):
    • Before long periods of non-use (e.g., off-season), run the unit in FAN mode for half a day on a sunny day to dry the interior.
    • Turn off the dedicated circuit breaker.
    • Clean the air filter and reinstall it.
  • Professional Maintenance: After several seasons, dust accumulation inside the unit can reduce performance. Regular professional maintenance inspections are recommended in addition to daily user maintenance.
  • Air Filter Cleaning: Clean the air filter monthly (or every two weeks as needed) to prevent clogging and maintain cooling/heating efficiency.
  • Power Consumption: The unit consumes electricity even when not in operation. Turn off the circuit breaker for long periods of non-use.
  • Safety Checks: Regularly inspect the unit stand and fittings for damage. If any abnormality (e.g., burning smell) occurs, stop operation immediately and turn off the breaker. Consult a dealer for repairs.

Safety Precautions (Summary)

The manual emphasizes several critical safety precautions, categorized as WARNINGS (potential for death or serious injury) and CAUTIONS (potential for injury or property damage). Key points include:

  • Prohibitions: Do not operate with damaged cords, expose body to direct airflow for extended periods, insert objects into air outlets/inlets, attempt self-repair/modification/reinstallation, stand/sit on outdoor unit, place objects on outdoor unit, remove fan guard, place burning appliances near airflow, expose children/plants/animals to direct airflow, place water vessels on unit, leave sprays near air outlet, block air inlets/outlets, use for preservation, or operate with wet hands.
  • Observe Instructions: Consult a qualified repairman for refrigerant leaks. Ensure proper ventilation when using burning appliances in the same room. Do not operate near flammable or corrosive gases.
  • Earth Line: Connect an earth line to prevent electric shocks. Do not connect to gas pipes, water pipes, lightning rods, or telephone earth lines.
  • Installation: Installation must be performed by a service shop or qualified technician. An earth leakage breaker may be required depending on the environment.
  • Drainage: Ensure smooth drainage to prevent water damage.
  • Outdoor Unit: Keep the area around the outdoor unit clear of objects, leaves, and debris to prevent malfunctions or fire from small animals.
