The Datalogic PowerScan™ BC9600 and BC9620 Base Stations are industrial base station/chargers designed for use with the PowerScan 9600 Family Bar Code Readers. These base stations facilitate the collection, decoding, and transmission of bar code data, forming a Cordless Reading System when paired with one or more PowerScan™ PM/PBT9600 readers.
Function Description:
The base station serves as a central hub for PowerScan 9600 series readers. It can be connected to a Host PC via various interfaces, including RS232, USB, USB Type C, or Ethernet, depending on the interchangeable connection module installed. A key feature is the adoption of Wireless Power Transfer technology, allowing the base station to charge the reader's battery without physical contacts. The charging performance is dependent on the power supply type used.
The base station includes LED indicators and a touch button. Pressing the button for 2 seconds triggers properly configured and switched-on scanners (with a battery profile different from Max Autonomy) linked to that base station and within radio range to emit a beep and blink for 5 seconds. This feature is useful for verifying linked scanners and locating forgotten devices.

Usage Features:
- Mounting: The base station can be set on a flat surface for desktop use or affixed vertically to a wall. Permanent mounting is always required for vertical surfaces. When mounting on drywall, it should be screwed to a wall stud or supporting beam. For vertical installation, the height should not exceed two meters.
- Positioning Tab: The base station features a reversible positioning tab for horizontal (desktop) or vertical (wall) mounting. The tab's orientation can be changed by removing a screw, rotating the tab to display the "WALL" tooth for vertical mounting, and then re-securing it.
- Portable Desktop Mounting: For desktop use requiring portability, a mounting plate can be utilized.
- Base Station Fast Release: The mounting plate is fixed to a flat surface, allowing the base station to slide on and off.
- Connection Module Fast Release (not valid for BC9620 models): The mounting plate is fixed to the connection module, and then both are fixed to a flat surface. This allows only the cradle to slide off, leaving the connection module on the desk.
- System Connections: Connections should always be made with the power off.
- BC9620/BC9630: These models provide a multi-interface connector (BC9630) or USB cable (BC9620) for host connections and a power supply connector. Cables are secured by a button (BC9620) or a lever and cable clip (BC9630).
- BC9631: This model provides a single multi-interface connector. Power is supplied by the host (USB) or an external power supply connected to the cable. It features a no-tool screw to open a front door for cable connection.
- BC9680/BC9681 (Ethernet models): These models connect via Ethernet cables and power adapters. BC9681 models support Power Over Ethernet (PoE) and external power connections. Ferrite mounting is recommended for Ethernet cables.
- LED Indicators:
- Green LED: Solid green indicates the base station is powered; blinking indicates data reception.
- Lateral Light Bands: Orange slow blinking indicates battery level under 50% and charging; green slow blinking indicates battery level over 50% and charging; solid green indicates a fully charged battery.
- Ethernet LEDs (Ethernet models only): BF LED (red/green) for network status; LINK LED (yellow/green) for link activity; SF LED (red/green) for module status; PWR LED (green) for power ON (not visible when installed in the cradle).
- Configuration:
- BC968X Ethernet Models: Configured using Datalogic Aladdin software or by reading configuration bar codes with a PowerScan™ PM9600 reader.
- Non-Ethernet Models (BC963X): Configured using Datalogic Aladdin software, sending configuration strings from a Host PC via RS232 or USB-COM, or by reading configuration bar codes with a PowerScan™ PM9600 reader.
- Datalogic Aladdin™: A free, multi-platform utility program for quick and user-friendly configuration and software upgrades via RS232/USB-COM or Ethernet.
- Configuration Bar Codes: Used to configure the base station after pairing with a reader.
Maintenance Features:
- Software Product Policy: Datalogic reserves the right to ship products with the latest software/firmware versions, ensuring customers receive the most up-to-date technology. Exceptions apply if a signed contract defines specific terms for software/firmware changes.
- Technical Support: Datalogic provides several services for technical support through its website (www.datalogic.com), offering access to download Data Sheets, Manuals, Software & Utilities, and Drawings. Reseller technical support is also available through authorized Datalogic resellers.
- Cable Recommendations:
- Use only recommended RS232 cables. If using a non-recommended cable, do not connect the power supply to it.
- Use only recommended Ethernet cables or high-quality shielded cables.
- Placement Caution: Do not place two base stations closer than 5cm to each other to avoid potential interferences and malfunctions of the wireless charging systems.
