• Use Dell Storage Manager to edit the Storage Center settings and set the operation mode of the Storage Center to Maintenance
mode.
Steps
1 Shut down the storage controller using Dell Storage Manager.
2 Make sure that all cables plugged into the storage controller are labeled.
3 Disconnect the cables from the storage controller that was shut down.
4 Remove the storage controller from the chassis
CAUTION: To prevent a thermal shutdown of the storage system, the service bae must be installed within three minutes
of removing the storage controller.
5 Install the service bae into the empty slot in the chassis.
6 Verify that the battery LED on the storage controller is o. It might take a few seconds for the LED to turn o.
7 Remove the cover from the storage controller.
8 Lift up the handle from the battery backup unit. The battery slides away from the cage connector.

Install the Battery Backup Unit
Use this procedure to install the battery backup unit.
Steps
1 Place the battery backup unit over the battery cage in the storage controller.
2 Lower the handle until it is ush with the battery.
The battery slides into the cage connector.
