Advantages Concerns
Support configuring LAGs between M-series I/O modules
across both external switches in stack (cross-switch LAG)
SAN Array-to-array traffic is isolated outside of the M1000e
enclosures
Supports ability to scale arrays
Supports ability to scale host.
Supports sharing SAN with non-M1000e servers.
External stacked switches can be expanded by adding
additional switches to stack as more ports are needed.
Can support different vendor switches in the external tier
Must bring external switch
stack down to apply switch
firmware updates.
Must bring internal switch
stack down to apply switch
firmware updates.
Other notes
If available, use 10Gb links between M-series I/O modules and external switches
Additional M1000e enclosures are added in similar fashion to diagram above.
