This document provides instructions for the De'Longhi electric deep fryer, a household appliance designed exclusively for frying foods. It emphasizes safety, proper usage, and maintenance to ensure optimal results and maximum safety.
Function Description:
The De'Longhi electric deep fryer is designed to deep-fry various foods such as chips, fish, meat, and vegetables. It features a removable bowl, a basket with a rise and fall control, a lid with a viewing window and filter, and an electrics unit with temperature control and an indicator light. The appliance is intended for household use only and should not be modified or tampered with.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Power Supply: The appliance must be connected to an earthed power supply with a minimum current rating of 10 A. Users should verify that the mains voltage matches the appliance's rating plate.
- Oil Capacity: The bowl has a maximum capacity of 1.3 litres of oil (or 1.2 kg of fat). The oil level must always be maintained between the maximum and minimum marks indicated inside the bowl to prevent the thermal cutout from tripping.
- Temperature Control: The fryer allows for temperature adjustment, typically ranging from 150°C to 190°C, depending on the food being fried.
- Safety Features: The appliance is designed with safety in mind, including warnings against moving it when oil is hot, using it without oil, and touching it with wet hands. It also includes a thermal cutout to prevent overheating if the oil level is too low.
- Compliance: The appliance conforms to EC directive 2004/108/EC on Electromagnetic Compatibility and EC regulation no. 1935/2004 of 27/10/2004 on materials intended for contact with food.
- UK Specifics: For UK users, the appliance must be protected by a 13A approved (BS1362) fuse and must be earthed. The cord wires are coloured Green and Yellow for Earth, Blue for Neutral, and Brown for Live. For non-rewireable plugs, the fuse cover must be refitted when replacing the fuse, and a lost cover requires a replacement before use. Cut-off non-rewireable plugs must be destroyed immediately to prevent electric shock hazards.
Usage Features:
- Initial Setup: Before first use, all packaging must be removed, and the bowl, basket, and lid should be washed in hot water with washing-up liquid, then thoroughly dried.
- Assembly: The bowl is inserted with electrical connectors at the front, followed by the electrics unit, and then the electric unit cord is placed in the cord storage area at the back.
- Oil/Fat Usage: Use good quality oil suitable for deep frying, such as corn oil or groundnut oil. Butter or margarine should not be used as they will smoke or bubble over. If using solid fat, it should be cut into small pieces, and the temperature set to 150°C until fully melted before adjusting to the desired frying temperature.
- Frying Process:
- Ensure oil is in the bowl before plugging in.
- Plug into the mains and set the temperature control.
- Wait for the indicator light to go out, signifying the oil has reached the correct temperature.
- Slowly and carefully lower the basket (containing food, max 0.7 kg) into the oil. Do not overfill.
- It is normal for hot steam and condensation to form when the basket is lowered.
- Dry food thoroughly before immersing it to ensure crispiness. Foods with high water content should be coated in breadcrumbs or flour, with excess removed.
- For food in batter, immerse the empty basket first, wait for the set temperature, then immerse the food directly into the hot oil to prevent sticking.
- Oil/Fat Longevity: Oil deteriorates after repeated heating and should be changed completely after 5-8 frying sessions, or sooner if an unpleasant smell, smoke, or dark colour is observed. Oil should be filtered after each use, especially when cooking breaded or floured foods, to remove particles that can accelerate deterioration. Ensure oil is cool before filtering.
- Frozen Food Frying:
- Frozen foods significantly lower oil temperature, so do not overfill the basket.
- Shake off excess ice before frying.
- Immerse the basket very slowly to prevent oil from boiling over.
- Cooking times and temperatures for frozen foods are approximate and should be adjusted based on the food's initial temperature and packaging instructions.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning:
- Always unplug the appliance and ensure it and the oil are completely cool before cleaning.
- Electrics Unit: Never immerse the electrics unit in water or place it under running tap water. Wipe with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
- Lid: Open and lift the lid, remove the plastic filter grille and filter. Soak the lid in hot soapy water for 20 minutes, then rinse and dry. The lid is dishwasher safe.
- Basket: After each use, remove and soak in hot soapy water for 20 minutes, then use a stiff brush.
- Fryer Body and Bowl: Soak in hot soapy water for 20 minutes, then use a non-abrasive cleaner. The bowl is dishwasher safe, but soaking is recommended for baked-on oil.
- Anti-Odour Filter: The anti-odour filter inside the lid loses efficiency over time and should be replaced after every 10-15 frying sessions. To replace, remove the plastic filter grille.
- Cord Maintenance: If the power cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, an authorised service centre, or a qualified professional to eliminate all risk. The user should not attempt to replace it due to the need for special tools.
- Moving the Appliance: Use the recesses at the bottom on all sides to move the appliance. Never use the basket handle for this purpose.
The manual also provides detailed tables for cooking times and temperatures for various non-frozen and frozen foods, emphasizing that these are approximate and should be adjusted to personal tastes and quantities.
