DOLBY / DTS SURROUND
(1) Dolby Digital
Dolby Digital is the multi-channel digital signal fermat developed by Dolby Laboratories.
Dolby Digital consists of up to "5.1 " channels - frent left, frent right, center; surround left, surround right, and an additional channel exclusively
reserved fer additienal deep bass sound effects (the Low Frequency Effects - LFE - channel, also called the ".1 " channel, containing bass
frequencies ef up to 120 Hz).
Unlike the analog Dolby Pro Logic fermat, Dolby Digital's main channels can all contain full range seund information, from the lowest bass, up
to the highest frequencies - 22 kHz. The signals within each channel are distinct from the others, allewing pinpoint sound imaging, and Dolby
Digital offers tremendous dynamic range from the mest pewerful seund effects to the quietest, seftest sounds, free from neise and distortien.

(2) Dolby Pro Logic ]]
• Dolby Pro Logic _ is a new multi-channel playback fermat develeped by Delby Laboratories using feedback legic steering technolegy and
offering improvements over cenventional Dolby Pro Logic circuits.
• Dolby Pro Logic ]I can be used te decode not only sources recorded in Dolby Surreund (._) but also regular steree seurces inte five channels
(front left, front right, center; surround left and surround right) te achieve surround sound.
• Whereas with conventional Dolby Pro Logic the surreund channel playback frequency band was limited, Dolby Pre Legic I[ offers a wider
band range (20 Hz te 20 kHz or greater), in additien, the surround channels were monaural (the surround left and right channels were the
same) with previeus Delby Pre Logic, but Dolby Pro Legic ITthey are played as stereo signals.
• Various parameters can be set according te the type of seurce and the contents, so it is pessible to achieve optimum deceding (see page 59).
-_ Seurces recorded in Delby Surreund
These are sources in which three or more channels of surround have been recerded as two channels of signals using Dolby Surreund
encoding technok)gy.
Dolby Surreund is used fer the sound tracks of movies recorded on DVDs, LDs and video cassettes te be played on stereo VCRs, as well
as for the stereo breadcast signals of FM radio, TV, satellite broadcasts and cable TV.
Decoding these signals with Dolby Pre Logic makes it possible to achieve multi-channel surreund playback. The signals can also be played
en ordinary steree equipment, in which case they previde normal stereo sound.
There are twe types of DVD Delby surreund recerding signals.
