USB Ports (Fig.A)
The
DeWALT
USB charger
3
is equipped with a USB Type‑A port
4
and a bi‑directional USB Type‑C Port
5
.
Type‑C port supports: Source – Power Delivery 3.0, Qualcomm QC3.0/2.0, Samsung AFC, BC 1.2, Type C only

Output only. USB Type‑A port capable of12W.
NOTE: Do not plug in devices that exceed the output ratings on the power source’s label. Doing so will shorten the USB
charger's usefullife.
DeWALT
batteries will charge, via the USB Type C port from most USB power supplies. Some power supplies may require a
different cable not supplied with this kit, and may charge at a slowerrate.
Charging a Device
Insert a USB plug into the USB Type‑A port
4
or bi‑directional USB Type‑C port
5
to supply power or charge yourdevices.
NOTE: There will be no LED indication while supplying power to or charging user devices. LEDs will only illuminate when
charging
DeWALT
batteries.
NOTE: The USB ports will shut down and the yellow LED will blink if the battery pack temperture is out of acceptable range.
OPERATION
CHARGING A BATTERY FIG. C, D
WARNING: The power adapter MUST be a Class 2powersupply.
NOTE: To ensure maximum performance and life of lithium‑ion battery packs, charge the battery pack fully before firstuse.
1. Plug power adapter
7
into an appropriate outlet. For fastest charge rate, use the provided
DeWALT
poweradapter.
NOTE: Slower charging blink pattern may occur if using lower poweradapters.
2. Attach the USB charger
3
to the battery pack
1
, making sure it is fullyseated.
NOTE: Once the USB charger is inserted the user will see the red LED illuminate for two seconds indicating the
power‑upsequence.
3. Connect the power adapter
7
USB port to the USB charger
3
Type‑C port using either the provided USB cable
6
(for fastest
charge rate) or a user suppliedcable.
4. The Stage 1Charging blink indicator represents the charge process that charges approximately 80% of the battery's capacity.
Stage2Charging blink indicator represents the remainder, or top off charge process, for the battery to reach fullcapacity.
5. The completion of charge will be indicated by both LEDs remaining ON continuously. The battery pack is fully charged and
may be removed and used at this time or left in the
DeWALT
USB charger.
The
DeWALT
USB charger will not charge a faulty battery pack. The charger refusing to light could indicate a problem with the
charger or a faulty batterypack.
NOTE: If the charger refuses to light, take the charger and battery pack to be tested at an authorized servicecenter.
Leaving the Battery Pack In the Charger
The charger and battery pack can be left connected with the charge indicator showing packcharged.
Hot/Cold Pack Delay
When the charger detects a battery pack that is too hot or too cold, it automatically starts a Hot/Cold Pack Delay, suspending
charging until the battery pack has reached an appropriate temperature. The charger then automatically switches to the pack
charging mode. This feature ensures maximum battery packlife.
During hot/cold pack delay, the red LED will blink and the yellow LED will remain solid. Once the battery pack has reached an
appropriate temperature, the yellow light will turn off and the charger will resume the chargingprocedure.
A cold battery pack may charge at a slower rate than a warm batterypack.
Never operate the USB charger the if ventilation slots are blocked. Do not permit foreign objects to enter the interior of the
USBcharger.
Electronic Protection System
Li‑Ion tools are designed with an Electronic Protection System that will protect the battery pack against overloading, overheating
or deepdischarge.
The tool will automatically turn off if the Electronic Protection System engages. If this occurs, place the lithium‑ion battery pack on
the charger until it is fullycharged.
Important Charging Notes
1. The charger and battery pack may become warm to the touch while charging. This is a normal condition, and does not
indicate a problem. To facilitate the cooling of the battery pack after use, avoid placing the charger or battery pack in a warm
environment such as in a metal shed or an uninsulatedtrailer.
The RBRC® Seal
Please take your spent battery packs to an authorized
DeWALT
service center or to your local retailer for
recycling. In some areas, it is illegal to place spent battery packs in the trash. You may also contact your local
recycling center for information on where to drop off the spent battery pack. Do not place in curbside recycling.
For more information visit www.call2recycle.org. or call the toll free number in the RBRC®Seal.
RBRC® is a registered trademark of Call 2Recycle,Inc.
Shipping the
DeWALT
FLEXVOLT® Battery Pack
The
DeWALT
FLEXVOLT® battery pack has a battery cap that should be used when shipping the batterypack.
Attach the cap to the battery pack to ready it for shipping. This converts the battery pack to three separate 20V batteries. The
three batteries have the Watt hour rating labeled “Shipping” on the battery pack. If shipping without the cap or in a tool, the pack
is one battery at the Watt hour rating labeled“Use”.
Example battery pack label:
USE: 120Wh SHIPPING: 3x 40Wh
In this example, the battery pack is three batteries with 40Watt hours each when using the cap. Otherwise, the battery pack is
one battery with 120Watthours.
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS
Important Safety Instructions for All Battery Packs
WARNING: Read all safety warnings, instructions, and cautionary markings for the battery pack, charger and
product. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or seriousinjury.
Do not charge or use the battery pack in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases
or dust. Inserting or removing the battery pack from the charger may ignite the dust orfumes.
NEVER force the battery pack into the charger. DO NOT modify the battery pack in any way to fit into a
non‑compatible charger as battery pack may rupture causing serious personal injury. Consult the chart at the end of this
manual for compatibility of batteries andchargers.
Charge the battery packs only in
DeWALT
chargers.
DO NOT splash or immerse in water or otherliquids.
DO NOT allow water or any liquid to enter batterypack.
Do not store or use the tool and battery pack in locations where the temperature may reach or exceed 104°F (40°C)
(such as outside sheds or metal buildings in summer). For best life store battery packs in a cool, drylocation.
NOTE: Do not store the battery packs in a tool with the trigger switch locked on. Never tape the trigger switch in the
ONposition.
Do not incinerate the battery pack even if it is severely damaged or is completely worn out. The battery pack can explode
in a fire. Toxic fumes and materials are created when lithium‑ion battery packs areburned.
If battery contents come into contact with the skin, immediately wash area with mild soap and water. If battery liquid
gets into the eye, rinse water over the open eye for 15minutes or until irritation ceases. If medical attention is needed, the battery
electrolyte is composed of a mixture of liquid organic carbonates and lithiumsalts.
Contents of opened battery cells may cause respiratory irritation. Provide fresh air. If symptoms persist, seek
medicalattention.
Battery liquid may be flammable if exposed to spark orflame.
Never attempt to open the battery pack for any reason. If the battery pack case is cracked or damaged, do not insert
into the charger. Do not crush, drop or damage the battery pack. Do not use a battery pack or charger that has received a sharp
blow, been dropped, run over or damaged in any way (e.g., pierced with a nail, hit with a hammer, stepped on). Damaged battery
packs should be returned to the service center forrecycling.
Storage Recommendations
The best storage place is one that is cool and dry, away from direct sunlight and excess heat or cold. Store the fully charged
battery pack out of thecharger.
Fuel Gauge Battery Packs (Fig.B)
Some battery packs include a fuel gauge. When the fuel gauge button is pressed and held, the LED lights will indicate the
approximate level of charge remaining. This does not indicate tool functionality and is subject to variation based on product
components, temperature, and end‑userapplication.
Transportation
WARNING: Fire hazard. Do not store, carry, or transport the battery pack so that metal objects can contact
exposed battery terminals. For example, do not place the battery pack in aprons, pockets, tool boxes, product kit boxes,
drawers, etc., with loose nails, screws, keys, coins, hand tools, etc. When transporting individual battery packs, make sure
that the battery terminals are protected and well insulated from materials that could contact them and cause a short circuit.
NOTE: Li‑ion battery packs should not be put in checked baggage on airplanes and must be properly protected from short
circuits if they are in carry‑onbaggage.
Installing and Removing the Battery Pack (Fig.D)
IMPORTANT: To avoid battery charge depletion, remove the battery pack from the
DeWALT
USB charger when not inuse.
To Install Battery Pack
Slide the battery pack
1
into the
DeWALT
USB charger
3
until the battery pack is firmlyseated.
To Remove the Battery Pack
Press the battery release button
2
and pull the USB charger from thebattery.
Over‑Discharge Protection
Over‑discharge protection will completely shut down the USB charger and require the user to remove the battery pack for at least
5seconds and re‑insert into the
DeWALT
USB charger to useagain. The user should ensure they see the power‑up blink pattern
upon insertion to ensure properoperation.
Do not disassemble the charger; take it to an authorized service center when service or repair is required. Incorrect
reassembly may result in a risk of electric shock, electrocution orfire.
Disconnect the charger from the outlet before attempting any cleaning. This will reduce the risk of electric shock.
Removing the battery pack will not reduce thisrisk.
Foreign materials of a conductive nature, such as but not limited to, grinding dust, metal chips, steel wool, aluminum
foil or any buildup of metallic particles should be kept away from the charger cavities and ventilationslots.
Always unplug the charger from the power supply when there is no battery pack in thecavity.
