Overview

The Dimplex Mk1 Oil-filled Panel Radiator is a digitally controlled, electronic thermostat-equipped heating appliance designed for normal domestic household use. It offers a range of heating modes and user-friendly controls to provide flexible and efficient heating.

Function Description:

The radiator's core function is to provide heat, controlled by an electronic thermostat. It utilizes a compact, mineral-filled sheathed bundy element to generate heat, which is then transferred to the surrounding space through the oil-filled panels. The heater is designed to maintain a target room temperature, known as the Setpoint, during heating periods. If the room temperature exceeds the Setpoint, the heater will not operate, conserving energy.

The control system allows users to choose between various operational modes:

  • User Timer: This mode offers the greatest flexibility, allowing users to customize four time slots throughout the day for each day of the week. During these "Comfort ON" periods, the heater will maintain the programmed temperature. Outside these periods, it enters "Comfort OFF" mode, where it does not deliver heat.
  • Manual Mode: In this continuous heat mode, the heater ignores the User Timer settings and maintains a constant room temperature, typically set to a comfortable 21°C by default.
  • Frost Protect: This mode is designed to prevent frost damage by maintaining a minimum room temperature of 7°C throughout a 24-hour period.
  • Standby: This mode switches off the heating element, providing no heat.

The heater incorporates a real-time clock with a calendar function, backed up by a 3.3V coin cell battery (CR2032, T85°C) with a life expectancy of over 5 years. This ensures the clock continues to run even during mains power outages.

A key safety feature is the thermal cut-out and overheat detection system. If the product overheats, the cut-out automatically prevents excessive temperatures by cutting power. Once cooled, it resets, and the display screen may flash red to indicate a past overheating event.

The device also includes an "Open Window" detection feature, which, when activated, detects sudden decreases in temperature (indicating an open window) and enters a reduced-power mode to avoid unnecessary energy loss.

Usage Features:

The radiator features an icon-based display with a white backlight and six touch-sensitive capacitive buttons with audio feedback, making it easy to navigate and adjust settings.

  • Setting Time and Date: Users can easily set the hour, minutes, day, month, and year through the menu, ensuring accurate timer operation. The heater also includes a DST (Daylight Saving Time) Rule setting, allowing it to automatically adjust for daylight saving time or to disable this feature if not required.
  • Setting Temperature: The target room temperature (Setpoint) can be adjusted using the Up and Down buttons on the main screen. The default comfortable temperature is 21°C, with a minimum of 7°C and a maximum adjustable up to 32°C.
  • Advance Function: This function provides temporary override capabilities for timed heating settings. If the heater is in a "Comfort Off" period and heat is desired, pressing "Advance" will turn it on. Conversely, if it's in a "Comfort On" period and heat is not desired, pressing "Advance" will turn it off until the next programmed "Comfort On" period. In continuous heat modes, "Advance" can simply switch the heater on and off.
  • Child Lock: To prevent unauthorized changes to settings, a Child Lock feature can be activated by pressing and holding the Back and Enter buttons for 3 seconds. A lock icon will appear on the screen, and the controls will be locked. Repeating the action unlocks them.
  • Audio Feedback: The audio feedback for button presses can be enabled or disabled through the options menu.
  • Temperature Units: Users can choose to display temperatures in either Celsius or Fahrenheit.
  • Factory Reset: The heater can be reset to its factory pre-sets by holding the Enter button for 5 seconds and following the on-screen prompts.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Before cleaning, the heater must be disconnected from the power supply and allowed to cool. The exterior can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth and then dried. Abrasive cleaning powders or furniture polish should not be used as they can damage the surface finish.
  • Battery Replacement: The control unit contains a user-replaceable CR2032 3V coin cell battery for the real-time clock backup. Instructions are provided for unhinging the heater from the wall, locating the battery module, and replacing the battery. The battery power is only used when there is no mains power to the unit.
  • Servicing and Repairs: Servicing and repairs, especially those requiring opening the oil container, should only be undertaken by the manufacturer's approved service agent or a similarly trained and qualified person, using exact manufacturer-approved spare parts. If an oil leak occurs, the radiator should be unplugged, and the supplier or customer helpline contacted.
  • Disposal: When disposing of the heater, regulations concerning oil disposal must be followed. Electrical products sold within the European Community should not be disposed of with household waste but recycled where facilities exist, in accordance with WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU. Packaging should also be disposed of responsibly, as the EPS used can be a choking hazard for children.
