ECLYPSE Connected Thermostat (ECY-STAT)
Locating the Default Network Congurations on the ECY-STAT (Home > About)
Default User Credentials
Use the following credentials to access the ECLYPSE Web Interface:
Username: admin
Password: admin
This password is only valid for a rst-time connection and you will be prompted to change it after your rst
login. Please ensure note down the changed password.
Default IP Congurations
The default WiFi IP address for the ECY-STAT Hotspot is 192.168.0.1.
The ECY-STAT is also automatically set in DHCP mode and requires a connection to a router acting as DHCP
server to communicate to a network. This setting may be changed through the ECLYPSE Web Interface.
Resetting WiFi Congurations
The Reset Wi-Fi Conguration option will re-activate the Hotspot on the ECY-STAT. It is used when an
ECY-STAT in Wi-Fi client mode is unable to connect to its Wi-Fi network, because of a wrong password, for
instance. To perform this, select Main Menu > Settings > Advanced Settings (you may have to enter your login
credentials again) > Reset Wi-Fi Conguration.
Follow these simple steps to get started with the ECLYPSE Connected Thermostat:
There are two networking methods to connect to an ECY-STAT for the rst time:
Wi-Fi.
Wired (Ethernet connection to a router that will act as a DHCP server).
Once you have connected the thermostat(s) to a network, congure the thermostat.

Overview

The Distech Controls ECLYPSE Connected Thermostat (ECY-STAT) is a smart thermostat designed for network connectivity, offering various methods for initial setup and ongoing management. Its primary function is to provide intelligent control over environmental conditions, while also integrating seamlessly into a broader building management system.

Function Description

The ECY-STAT operates as a connected device, allowing users to monitor and adjust settings remotely via a web interface. It supports both Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet connections, making it versatile for different network infrastructures. The device is designed to work within a network where a DHCP server assigns IP addresses, but it also supports static IP configurations for environments without a DHCP server. This flexibility ensures that the thermostat can be integrated into various IT setups, from simple home networks to more complex commercial building systems.

At its core, the ECY-STAT manages temperature and potentially other environmental parameters, providing a user-friendly interface for local adjustments and a comprehensive web interface for advanced configurations. The device stores its network configurations, allowing for persistent connectivity once set up. It also features a "Hotspot" mode, which is crucial for initial setup or troubleshooting when direct network access is not immediately available. This Hotspot allows a PC or wireless device to connect directly to the thermostat for configuration purposes.

The thermostat is part of a larger ecosystem, indicated by its compatibility with Distech Controls' XpressNetwork Utility. This utility facilitates batch operations, such as discovering multiple ECY-STAT devices on a network, configuring their IP settings, or setting up Wi-Fi parameters simultaneously. This feature is particularly useful for installations involving numerous thermostats, streamlining the deployment process significantly.

Usage Features

The ECY-STAT offers several user-friendly features for both initial setup and daily operation.

Initial Setup and Connectivity:

  • Default User Credentials: For the first-time connection to the web interface, the device uses a default username "admin" and password "admin." Users are prompted to change this password upon their first login, enhancing security.
  • Network Configuration Visibility: Users can easily locate the default network configurations directly on the ECY-STAT's screen by navigating to "Home > About." This screen displays critical information such as firmware version, GUI version, host name, Ethernet IP address, Ethernet MAC address, Wi-Fi mode (Hotspot), Wi-Fi IP address, Wi-Fi MAC address, and SSID. This information is vital for troubleshooting and manual configuration.
  • Wi-Fi Hotspot Connection: This is a key feature for initial setup. Users can connect their PC or wireless device directly to the ECY-STAT's Wi-Fi hotspot, which is named "ECLYPSE-XXYYZZ" (where XXYYZZ are the last 6 hexadecimal characters of the controller's MAC address). The default password for this hotspot is "eclypse1234." Once connected, users can access the web interface by entering https://192.168.0.1 into their web browser. This method is particularly useful when the thermostat is not yet connected to a router or when a DHCP server is unavailable.
  • Wired IP Connection (DHCP): For wired connections, the ECY-STAT can be plugged into a router acting as a DHCP server. The device will automatically obtain an IP address. Users then connect their PC to the same router and access the web interface using the Ethernet IP address displayed on the thermostat's "About" screen. This method is straightforward for integrating the thermostat into existing wired networks.
  • Static IP Configuration: In environments without a DHCP server, the ECY-STAT can be configured with a static IP address. This option is available through the web interface after an initial connection (e.g., via Wi-Fi Hotspot). Users may need to consult their IT department for appropriate static IP settings.
  • Batch Operations with XpressNetwork Utility: For installations with multiple ECY-STATs, the Distech Controls' XpressNetwork Utility simplifies the process. It allows for batch discovery of devices, as well as simultaneous configuration of IP and Wi-Fi settings, significantly reducing setup time and effort.

Operational Features:

  • Local Control: The device features a local display and controls, allowing users to adjust temperature and other basic settings directly on the thermostat.
  • Remote Web Interface: The comprehensive web interface provides advanced control and monitoring capabilities from any web browser. This includes changing network settings, managing user accounts, and configuring operational parameters.
  • User-Friendly Navigation: The on-device menu structure, with options like "My Personify," "Units °F °C," "Settings," "About," and "Log out," is designed for intuitive navigation.
  • Real-time Information: The "About" screen provides real-time status updates on network connectivity, including IP addresses and MAC addresses for both Ethernet and Wi-Fi interfaces.

Maintenance Features

The ECY-STAT includes features designed to facilitate maintenance, troubleshooting, and system longevity.

  • Password Management: The system enforces a password change on the first login, promoting better security practices. This helps protect the device from unauthorized access.
  • Resetting Wi-Fi Configurations: A crucial maintenance feature is the "Reset Wi-Fi Configuration" option. This allows users to reactivate the Wi-Fi Hotspot on the ECY-STAT. It is particularly useful if the thermostat, in Wi-Fi client mode, fails to connect to its Wi-Fi network due to an incorrect password or other configuration issues. This can be accessed via "Main Menu > Settings > Advanced Settings" (which may require login credentials). This ensures that connectivity can be restored even if the device loses its network connection.
  • Firmware and GUI Version Display: The "About" screen clearly displays the firmware and GUI versions. This information is essential for support and troubleshooting, allowing technicians to quickly identify if the device is running the latest software or if an update is required.
  • Boot-up Indicator: The device requires approximately one minute after the home screen is displayed to fully boot up before the web interface can be accessed. This information helps users understand expected behavior during startup and avoids premature attempts to connect, which could lead to frustration.
  • Troubleshooting Guidance: The manual provides clear steps for troubleshooting common connectivity issues, such as what to do if no DHCP server is available or if the Wi-Fi connection fails. This empowers users to resolve minor issues independently.
  • Support Contact Information: Distech Controls provides contact information (phone and fax) for support, ensuring that users can easily reach out for assistance with more complex issues.

In summary, the ECLYPSE Connected Thermostat is a robust and flexible device, designed for easy integration into various network environments and offering comprehensive control and management capabilities. Its user-friendly interface, combined with powerful network features and maintenance options, makes it a suitable choice for modern building management systems.
