Overview

The Dogtra STB BEEPER COLLAR and STB HAWK COLLAR are run/point collars designed to assist in dog training and hunting. These devices are equipped with sound features that vary depending on the specific model. The STB BEEPER COLLAR emits a beep sound, while the STB HAWK COLLAR produces a hawk sound. Both models offer an audible range of 400 meters, allowing handlers to track their dogs from a distance.

Function Description

The primary function of these collars is to provide audible feedback on a dog's activity, specifically whether it is running or pointing/stationary. This is achieved through two distinct operating modes: Run/Point Mode and Point-Only Mode.

In Run/Point Mode, the collar provides continuous feedback. For the STB BEEPER COLLAR, a double beep is emitted every 7 seconds when the dog is running, and a double beep every 2 seconds when the dog is pointing or stationary. Similarly, for the STB HAWK COLLAR in Run/Point Mode, a double hawk sound is emitted every 7 seconds while the dog is running, and a double hawk sound every 2 seconds when the dog is pointing or stationary. This mode is ideal for tracking a dog's movement and identifying when it has gone on point.

In Point-Only Mode, the collar remains silent while the dog is running. The audible signal is only activated when the dog is pointing or stationary. For the STB BEEPER COLLAR, a double beep is emitted every 2 seconds when the dog is pointing/stationary. For the STB HAWK COLLAR, a single hawk sound is emitted every 2 seconds when the dog is pointing/stationary. This mode is useful for handlers who only want to be alerted when their dog has found game and is holding a point, without constant sound while the dog is actively searching.

The mode selection is managed through a magnetic activation system. The collar always starts in Run/Point Mode when turned on. To switch to Point-Only Mode, the activation magnet is placed on the magnetic red dot on the system for 1 second and then released. If the collar is in Point-Only Mode and the user wishes to return to Run/Point Mode, the same procedure is followed. The system provides an audible confirmation (a beep sound for the STB BEEPER COLLAR and a hawk sound for the STB HAWK COLLAR) when the Point-Only Mode is selected.

Usage Features

Turning the System On/Off: The system is turned on by placing the activation magnet on the magnetic red dot on the collar and holding them together until the LED light comes on. A melody will play, followed by two beeps, indicating the system is active. To turn off the system, the activation magnet is again placed on the magnetic red dot and held until the LED light turns red. A melody will play, confirming the system is off.

Receiver Fitting: Proper fit of the receiver is crucial for optimal performance and the dog's comfort. The receiver should be fitted snugly around the dog's neck, allowing enough space to fit one finger between the product and the dog's skin. The ideal placement is on either side of the dog's windpipe. An improper, loose fit can cause the receiver to move around, leading to skin irritation and inconsistent sound signals.

LED Indicator: The collar features an LED indicator light located on the front of the system. This light flashes every 4 seconds when the receiver is on and ready for use, providing a visual cue of the device's operational status. The color of the LED indicator also communicates the battery life level:

  • Green: Indicates a full charge.
  • Amber: Indicates a medium charge.
  • Red: Indicates that the battery needs to be charged. If the unit continues to be used when the LED indicator is red, it may automatically shut down.

Charging the Battery: The STB BEEPER COLLAR and STB HAWK COLLAR are powered by lithium polymer batteries. The unit should be recharged when the indicator light turns red or does not come on. To charge the system, the rubber plug on the battery charging receptacle is opened, and the charging cable is plugged in. The charger is then connected to a 120-volt wall outlet (or a 220-volt European charger for Europe, or an auto charger into a cigarette lighter for lithium polymer batteries). All indicator lights will glow red during charging, and the unit will automatically shut off. Once fully charged, the lights will turn green. A full charge typically takes 2 hours. After charging, the battery charging receptacles should be covered with the rubber plugs to maintain the unit's waterproof integrity.

Maintenance Features

Basic Maintenance: Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and proper functioning of the collar. It is important to ensure that the rubber charging cap is securely in place whenever the system is in use to maintain its waterproof certification. After each training session, the unit should be carefully inspected for any missing parts or damage to the casing. Damaged or broken casing can compromise the waterproof guarantee. After confirming no damage, the receiver should be rinsed and cleaned to remove any dirt or debris.

Storage Maintenance: For extended storage periods, the STB BEEPER COLLAR or STB HAWK COLLAR should be fully charged. While in storage, it is recommended to give the unit a full charge once a month and always before the first use after storage. The units should be stored at room temperature and protected from exposure to extreme climates, which can negatively impact battery life and overall device performance.

Troubleshooting: In the event of a malfunction, users are advised to refer to the "Troubleshooting Guide" before seeking professional service. For any questions or concerns, Dogtra customer service can be contacted via email at info@dogtra.com or by phone at (888) 811-9111.

Safety and Product Information:

The manual emphasizes important safety precautions. Dogtra products are intended for humane dog training and should not be used with aggressive dogs, as this could lead to adverse reactions and injury. Adult supervision is required when children are near or using Dogtra products, as they are not toys. The products contain electrical components and batteries, so they should be kept away from heat or flammable sources to prevent damage, fire, or explosion. Dogtra products emit low-level electromagnetic waves and radio frequencies, which may interfere with medical devices like pacemakers or defibrillators. Users with such devices are advised to consult their physician or device maker before use. The digital microprocessor includes a safety feature that automatically shuts down the Constant button after 12 seconds to prevent inadvertent activation. The products are not intended for use on other animals or humans. Batteries should be handled with care, disposed of according to local regulations, and never disassembled, crushed, heated, or altered to prevent fire or injury.
