home, including security. Security is extremely important for any homeowner, and smart
doorbells offer several features to maintain a safe and secure home. DoorBird is the industry
standard for smart doorbells, with top-of-the-line cameras, real-time notifications, and video
playback. Installing a DoorBird system in your customers’ home gives homeowners peace of
mind knowing that their property is protected. With the DoorBird driver, customers can easily
and conveniently see who is at the door, grant or deny access to their home by triggering a
smart lock, and play back surveillance video all in the Control4 interface.
In addition to the main features customers can receive alerts when motion is detected at the
door, when someone rings the doorbell, when a code is entered on the keypad (specific
models), and more. Icons show the states of the DoorBird, visually communicating that motion
has been detected, when the doorbell rings, if the doorbell has been silenced, and more.

Overview

The DoorBird Doorstation Driver integrates DoorBird smart doorbells with the Control4 Home Automation system, enhancing home security and convenience. This driver allows users to manage their DoorBird devices directly through the Control4 interface, providing a unified control experience for various smart home functions.

Function Description

The DoorBird Doorstation Driver enables comprehensive control and monitoring of DoorBird smart doorbells within a Control4 environment. It supports all DoorBird models and configurations, including D101(S), D2101V, D2101KV, D2101KH, and D1101V, and is compatible with Control4 systems running OS 3.1 and above. The primary function is to integrate the DoorBird's camera, intercom, and user interface features into the Control4 ecosystem. This means homeowners can view live camera feeds, communicate with visitors, and manage access to their property directly from Control4 touchscreens, the Control4 GUI, or the MyHome App.

A core aspect of its functionality is security enhancement. The driver facilitates real-time notifications for various events, such as motion detection, doorbell presses, and keypad entries (on specific models). These alerts can be configured to trigger specific actions within the Control4 system, providing immediate awareness and control. For instance, a doorbell press can trigger an intercom call to all connected Control4 devices, while motion detection can send a push notification with an image snapshot to the homeowner's mobile device. The driver also supports the integration of smart locks, allowing users to grant or deny access by triggering a connected lock directly from the Control4 interface.

Usage Features

The DoorBird Doorstation Driver offers a rich set of usage features designed to make home security and access management intuitive and efficient.

  • Camera Integration: The driver automatically sets up camera settings, enabling both local and remote viewing of the DoorBird's live feed. This is accessible via Control4 T3 touchscreens, the Control4 GUI, and the MyHome App, providing visual verification of visitors or events at the door.
  • Intercom Functionality: DoorBird units integrate seamlessly with the Control4 intercom proxy via SIP. Upon successful connection, the driver registers the DoorBird with the Control4 SIP server, allowing for two-way communication with visitors. When the doorbell is pressed, an intercom call can be initiated to designated Control4 intercom groups, ensuring that homeowners can speak with visitors from anywhere in their home or remotely.
  • Event-Based Notifications: The driver provides extensive notification capabilities for various DoorBird events:
    • Doorbell Press: Triggers an event when the doorbell is pressed. For multi-dwelling units (MDU) with multiple doorbells, all doorbell events trigger this general event, with options for custom event programming based on specific doorbell IDs.
    • Motion Detection: Activates an event when motion is detected at the door. Users can configure motion sensitivity and zones via the DoorBird App, with a minimum wait time of 30 seconds between motion events to prevent excessive notifications.
    • Relay Trigger: Fires an event when a relay on the DoorBird is triggered. This can be used to control connected gates or doors. Dealers can program Control4 events to trigger a lock not directly tied to the DoorBird, offering flexible access control.
    • RFID Tag Use: For DoorBird units supporting RFID tags, the driver triggers events when a tag is used. Push notifications are sent by default, and conditional programming for specific users is available, with the driver recording the last username for this purpose.
    • Keypad Entry: On keypad models, an event is triggered when a user enters their code. The username can be used for custom event programming.
    • Silenced State: The driver can mute or silence alerts from the DoorBird for a specified duration. During this period, no event notifications will be triggered, although Control4 Event programming will still function.
  • Customizable Actions: For each event, users can configure various actions:
    • Message: Send a custom message to the customer when an event occurs. Custom variables can be inserted into these messages for dynamic content.
    • Intercom Group: Execute a SIP call to a specified intercom group.
    • Push Notification: Send a Control4 Push Notification with a DoorBird image snapshot to registered MyHome devices. Alert levels (Alarm, Alert, Info, No) and subject lines are configurable.
    • Announcement: Trigger an announcement within the home.
    • Navigators: Display a popup on selected Control4 touchscreens, showing an image and message.
  • UI Proxy and Icon Control: The driver includes an icon in the Control4 interface that customers can use to trigger connected gates/locks or other custom actions. Single/double tapping the icon can be configured to trigger Relay 1 (default), Relay 2, Silence Alerts, Display Status, or Nothing. The driver also provides visual feedback through icon states, indicating if motion has been detected, the doorbell has been pressed, a relay has been triggered, or alerts are silenced. Dealers can choose to show or hide the DoorBird icon in all rooms.
  • Custom Message Variables: The driver supports inserting various variables into notification messages, including driver variables (e.g., [LAST_USER_NAME]), other driver variables (e.g., {deviceId:Variable_Name}), and Composer variables (e.g., {composer_variable}). This allows for highly personalized and informative alerts.
  • Control4 Push Notification Setup: The driver supports automatic push notifications to registered MyHome devices via the Control4 app. Users must configure their Control4 account, select mobile devices to receive notifications, and set up specific areas, categories, and severity levels for notifications.

Maintenance Features

The DoorBird Doorstation Driver includes several features to simplify setup, testing, and troubleshooting, which can be considered maintenance-related for installers and advanced users.

  • Driver Setup Process: The setup involves creating a dedicated user (e.g., user 0002) in the DoorBird app with all permissions enabled, and then enabling SDDP (Simple Device Discovery Protocol) in the DoorBird app.
  • Control4 Agent Integration: Required Control4 agents, such as History Agent, Communication Agent (for Intercom), Push Notification Agent, and Announcement Agent, must be added to the project.
  • Connection Methods: The DoorBird can be connected to Control4 via SDDP for automatic discovery or by manually adding the driver and entering the IP address.
  • Driver Configuration: Once connected, the username and password for the dedicated DoorBird user (0002) are entered into the driver. Navigators are then refreshed and tested.
  • Intercom Synchronization: If intercom with touchscreens is needed, dealers may need to press the doorbell button once to sync the Control4 SIP server with the DoorBird.
  • Debug Mode: The driver offers a Debug Mode property that, when set to 'On', displays driver logs on the Lua tab, aiding in troubleshooting communication issues.
  • Driver Actions for Troubleshooting: A set of accessible driver actions simplifies setup and testing:
    • View Status: Displays the status and history of the DoorBird on the Lua tab.
    • Simulate Doorbell: Simulates a doorbell event for testing notification and intercom functionality.
    • Print User and Relay Info: Shows user and relay information found in the DoorBird app, allowing dealers to program without direct access to the DoorBird app.
    • Reset DoorBird: Initiates a fresh setup process from scratch, useful for resolving complex configuration issues.
  • Advanced SIP Settings: For projects not using Control4 as the SIP server or requiring greater control, the driver allows manual configuration of SIP Domain, Username, and Password via the Intercom - SIP Driver Property. This provides flexibility for specialized network setups.
  • Hardware Prerequisites: Before Control4 setup, it's crucial to ensure the DoorBird is installed according to its manual, can use Wifi or PoE (PoE preferred), is on the same subnet as the Control4 director, and functions correctly with the DoorBird app (camera view and communication). These preliminary checks prevent common integration issues.

The DoorBird Doorstation Driver is a robust solution that seamlessly integrates advanced doorbell functionalities into the Control4 smart home, offering enhanced security, convenience, and a streamlined user experience.
