9.2.4. Camshaft
1) Camshaft End play
•
Push the thrust plate toward the cam
gear.
•
With a feeler gauge, measure the clear-
ance between the thrust plate and
camshaft journal.
•
If the end play is excessive, replace the
thrust plate.
2) Cam
•
Cam lobe height
Use a micrometer to measure the cam
lobe height and journal diameter.
If the measured number is less than the
specified limit, the camshaft must
replaced.
•
Cam surface
Inspect the cam face for scratch or damage.
Slight step wear or damage on the cam face may be corrected with oil stone or oiled grind-
ing paper. But, replace if severely damaged.
3) Cam shaft
•
Clearance
between camshaft journal and camshaft bush
- With an outside micrometer, measure the camshaft journal diameter.
- Measure the inside diameter of the camshaft bushing on the cylinder block using a cylin-
der bore indicator, and compare the measured value with the camshaft outside diameter to
determine the clearance.
