Information on pneumatic medication
nebulization
Medication nebulization may be used in all
ventilation modes.
The medication nebulizer nebulizes continuously.
The aerosol generated during expiration does not
reach the lungs, however.
O2 concentration during nebulization
Air is used for medication nebulization. The
delivered O
2 concentration is therefore lower than
the set O
2 concentration.
If FiO
2 must remain constant, set the O2
concentration using the nomogram.
Example:
With an inspiratory flow of 10 L/min and a desired
O
2 concentration of 80 Vol.%, the O2-Vol.% setting
knob must be set to 90 Vol.% during medication
nebulization.
CAUTION
Reduced O2 concentration
Air is used for medication nebulization. The
delivered O
2 concentration is therefore lower
than the set O
2 concentration.
If required, set a higher inspiratory O
2
concentration.
CAUTION
Insufficient medication nebulization
A medication nebulizer fault is not detected by
Babylog 8000.
– Check the correct functioning of the
medication nebulizer.
– Check whether aerosol is generated.
