ARDIAC OUTPUT (C.O.)
Catheters (Comp. Constant)
The monitor compensates for discrepancies in catheters used to measure C.O. The
catheter compensation factor is listed as Comp. constant on the C.O. setup menu.
If you use an Edwards/Baxter, BD/Ohmeda, or Arrow catheter, the computation
constant is automatically chosen for you. You can, however, enter a different value
(whenever, for instance, you change either injectate volume or temperature).
Choosing a catheter type determines the available choices under
Catheter Size and
Injectate Volume. The following tables list the computation constants for Edwards/
Baxter, BD/Ohmeda, and Arrow catheters.
WARNING: An incorrect computation constant may yield
incorrect C.O. measurements and put the patient at risk.
Confirm that the manually entered computation constant is
correct for the catheter you are using.
