MAC Values
Standard MAC Values
When the monitor, operating in adult mode, has identified an agent, the parameter box
shows a value for the standard minimum alveolar concentration of the agent (standard
MAC value). Standard MAC values are merely a guideline based on the anesthetic
requirements of an average adult patient. Age and other factors are not taken into
account.
1 standard MAC (minimum alveolar concentration) is equal to the alveolar anesthetic
concentration at one atmosphere (760 mmHg) at which 50 % of all patients no longer
respond to noxious stimuli, and corresponds to the following end-tidal expiratory
agent concentrations.
The table below shows typical agent parameter box displays when using standard
MAC values.
NOTE:
When connected via a Scio connecting cable (PN: 7876878 or 7876886) to the
X3 or Scio/ISD connector, the setting chosen in the MAC Calc. menu
determines whether standard or age-based MAC values are used.
Consult the drug package insert regarding MAC and age for inhaled agents.

average age of 25 years. The value of Desflurane shown here has been
compensated to age 40 according to the Mapleson formula.
