(2) Child Donning
NOTE: Child donning of the UXF-35 life preserver should be performed
under crew instruction and supervision.
(a) Open the container bag by pulling the tear strip away from the bag.
Remove the life preserver from the bag. Open the life preserver.
(b) Follow the pictorial instructions shown in Figure 9.
(c) Place life preserver over the child’s head and down around the neck
as in adult donning.
(d) Wrap the waist strap around the back of the child’s waist and back to
the front as in adult donning.
(e) Engage the waist strap buckle together at the center strap as in adult
donning.
(f) Adjust the waist strap so it is tight about the child’s waist by pulling
the loose end of the waist strap.
(g) For small children whose head may slip through the life preserver’s
neck opening, pass the excess length of waist strap between the
child’s legs from front to back. Tie this excess strap securely to the
tight waist strap at the child’s back. The excess strap should be snug,
but not tight against the child’s crotch.
(h) After donning completely, inflate the life preserver by pulling
downward on the red lanyard pull handle to actuate the CO
2
inflation
system.
(i) If the CO
2
inflation system fails, inflate the flotation chamber by mouth
using the oral inflation tube. The oral inflation tube is also used to top
off the flotation chambers, if needed, due to gradual air loss.
