4. OVERALL EQUIPMENT OPERATION
A. Life Preserver Donning
(1) Adult Donning
(a) Open the container bag by pulling the tear strip away from the bag.
Remove the life preserver from the bag. Open the life preserver.
(b) Follow the pictorial instructions shown in Figure 8.
(c) Place the preserver over the head of the person and down around the
neck.
(d) Wrap the waist strap around the person’s waist and engage the waist
strap buckle together at the front center strap.
(e) Adjust the waist strap so it is tight about the persons waist by pulling
the loose end of the waist strap.
(f) After donning completely, inflate the life preserver by pulling
downward the red lanyard pull handle to actuate the CO
2
inflation
system.
(g) If the CO
2
inflation system fails, inflate the flotation chamber by mouth
using the oral inflation tubes. The oral inflation tube is also used to
top off the flotation chambers, if needed, due to gradual air loss.
