B. Visual Inspections
Inspect the UXF-35 Life Preserver assembly for obvious signs of damage or
contamination. Perform procedures described in the Check section of this
manual. Perform procedures described in the Cleaning section of this manual
as required.
C. Inspection Procedures
Perform each of the procedures listed below to complete the maintenance
inspection.
(1) Perform leakage test on the inflation chamber.
(2) Weight check the CO
2
cylinder.
(3) Inspect all fabric for abrasion, chafing, and soiling.
(4) Carefully examine all stitching.
(5) Inspect webbing for damage.
(6) Inspect buckles and inflators for corrosion and damage.
(7) Inspect and verify that the buckles operate properly.
(8) Inspect the oral tube for splitting and other damage.
(9) Inspect the water activated battery powered light for proper installation,
attachment, and physical condition of the lamp, wire, and battery.
7. LEAKAGE TEST
A. Test Setup
The following tools and equipment are required to perform this test; a barometer,
a thermometer, a pressure gage or manometer, shop compressed air, and oral
tube adaptor. Refer to Figure 901 of the Special Tools, Fixtures, and Equipment
section of this manual for details.
B. Test Procedures
(1) Inflate the cell of the life preserver through the oral tube to approximately to
2.0 psig (0.138 Bar) from a regulated air supply not to exceed 10 psig (0.69
Bar). Use the oral tube adapter to couple the air supply to oral tube valve.
CAUTION
: DO NOT USE AN AIR SUPPLY GREATER THAN 10 PSIG.
USING SUPPLY AIR PRESSURE GREATER THAN 10 PSIG
MAY DAMAGE THE ORAL VALVE.
