Question and Answer IconNeed help?

Do you have a question about the ebm-papst W1G300-BB19-11 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes the W1G300-BB19-11 device, an energy-saving motor/fan (ESM) designed as a built-in component for conveying air. It is intended for use in stationary systems and for performing all maintenance work. The device is designed to convey air at an ambient air pressure between 800 mbar and 1050 mbar, within a permitted ambient temperature range of -30 °C to 50 °C. It must be operated with all protective devices in place and in accordance with the operating instructions.

Function Description

The W1G300-BB19-11 is a single-phase AC motor/fan with a speed setting input (230 V) and an ESM+ expandable plug-in module. It features a soft start function and thermal overload protection for the motor. The device is designed for continuous operation (S1 mode) and has two speed levels (n1 and n2), which can be selected by an external switch (S) that connects the speed selection input to either L1 or N for "closed" (n2) or leaves it "open" (n1).

Integrated protective features cause the motor to switch off automatically in the event of faults such as rotor position detection error, blocked rotor, or motor overload. For a rotor position detection error, an automatic restart follows. If the rotor is blocked, the motor restarts automatically after the blockage is removed. In case of motor overload, the device restarts automatically after cooling off.

Usage Features

The device is a built-in component and requires proper safeguarding by the owner, including a fixed protective device and guard grill. It must not be operated without these safety features. The fan must be securely positioned during installation, and all fastening screws must be tightened. It should not be subjected to force or excessive vibration from other parts of the installation. If connected to air ducts, the connection should be isolated from vibration using compensators or similar elements.

Electrical connection requires checking that the nameplate information matches connection data and that the power supply matches the device voltage. Only cables designed for the current level indicated on the nameplate should be used, with the protective earth having a cross-section equal to or greater than the phase conductor. The device must only be connected to circuits that can be switched off with an all-pole disconnection switch.

Cable routing is critical to prevent water ingress. For fans installed lying flat, the cable should be routed in a U-shaped loop. For fans installed upright, cables must always be routed downward.

Improper use, which is prohibited and hazardous, includes:

  • Operating in an unbalanced state (e.g., due to dirt or ice).
  • Resonant operation or operation with severe vibration.
  • Operation in camping areas or similar applications.
  • Operation in medical equipment with life-sustaining or life-support functions.
  • Conveying solids, abrasive particles, or highly corrosive air (unless designed for it).
  • Conveying air with high dust content (e.g., sawdust).
  • Painting the device.
  • Loose connections during operation.
  • Operating near flammable materials or in explosive atmospheres.
  • Using the device as a safety component or for safety-related functions.
  • Operation with completely or partially disassembled or manipulated protective devices.

Maintenance Features

Regular checks for proper operation and soiling are necessary to ensure a long service life. The frequency of checks should be adapted to the degree of soiling.

Cleaning:

  • Only clean when the device is not in motion. Do not disconnect from the power supply; switch off via the control input to prevent accidental start-up.
  • Dry cleaning, such as with compressed air, is the preferred method.
  • Do not use high-pressure cleaners, acid, alkali, or solvent-based cleaning agents.
  • Avoid pointed or sharp-edged objects for cleaning.
  • Completely remove any cleaning agents used.
  • If cleaning does not eliminate vibrations, the fan may need rebalancing. Contact ebm-papst for rebalancing services.
  • If severe corrosion is visible on load-bearing or rotating parts, switch off and replace the device. Repair of these parts is not permitted.

Safety Inspection:

  • Check contact protection cover for intactness or damage: Visual inspection every 6 months. Repair or replace if damaged.
  • Check device for damage to blades and housing: Visual inspection every 6 months. Replace if damaged.
  • Fasten cables: Visual inspection every 6 months. Fasten if loose.
  • Insulation of cables for damage: Visual inspection every 6 months. Replace if damaged.
  • Abnormal bearing noise: Acoustic check every 6 months. Replace device if noise persists.

Storage:

  • Store in a dry, weather-protected, vibration-free, clean environment in original packaging.
  • Protect against environmental effects and dirt until final installation.
  • Recommended storage for no longer than one year for trouble-free operation and maximum service life.
  • Even outdoor-intended devices should be stored as described prior to commissioning.
  • Maintain storage temperature within -40 °C to +80 °C.

Long-Term Storage and Operation:

  • If the device is not operated for a lengthy period in a dry environment, it should be started and operated at full speed for one hour at least every four months.
  • If stored in a damp environment (e.g., outdoors), it should be started and operated at full speed for at least two hours once a month to move the bearings and evaporate any condensate.

Disposal:

  • Disassembly should be performed or supervised by qualified personnel.
  • The product should be disassembled into components for disposal using standard procedures for motors.
  • Components are mostly steel, copper, aluminum, and plastic. Separate for recycling into categories: steel and iron, aluminum, non-ferrous metal (e.g., motor windings), plastics (especially with brominated flame retardants), insulating materials, cables and wires, and electronic scrap (e.g., circuit boards).
  • Ferrite magnets (used in external rotor motors) can be disposed of like normal iron and steel.
  • Electrical insulating materials, cables, and wires are made of similar materials and should be treated similarly.
  • Dispose of electronic components following proper procedures for electronic scrap.
  • Always observe applicable country-specific legal regulations for product and waste disposal.
