Overview

The E90-DTU (433L33)-V8 is a wireless data transceiver manufactured by Chengdu Ebyte Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. This device operates in the 433MHz frequency band and utilizes LoRa direct sequence spread spectrum technology for robust and long-distance communication. It is designed for half-duplex transparent transmission and comes equipped with standard RS232/RS485 connectors.

Function Description:

The E90-DTU (433L33)-V8 serves as a wireless data modem, enabling reliable data transmission over a specified range. Its core function is to convert serial data (RS232 or RS485) into radio frequency (RF) signals for wireless transmission and vice versa. The transparent transmission mode means that the device acts as a bridge, passing data without modification, making it compatible with various existing serial communication protocols.

Key features contributing to its functionality include:

  • LoRa Technology: Provides extended communication distance, improved power density concentration, and enhanced anti-interference capabilities.
  • FEC Algorism: Incorporates Forward Error Correction for higher coding efficiency and proactive correction of interfered data packets, significantly improving reliability and communication distance.
  • Data Encryption and Compression: Ensures data security and potentially reduces transmission time, thereby improving reliability and communication efficiency.
  • Multiple Operating Modes: Offers four modes (Normal, Wake-up, Power-saving, and Sleep) to optimize power consumption based on application requirements. The factory default is Normal Mode (Mode 0).
  • Parameter Configuration: Allows users to configure various parameters such as TX power, frequency point, air data rate, and address through a dedicated configuration tool.

The device is suitable for a wide range of industrial automation systems and applications requiring wireless data transmission, including smart homes, IoT transformations, power load monitoring, distribution network automation, hydrological forecasting, water pipe network monitoring, urban street lamp monitoring, air defense alarm control, railway signal monitoring, centralized control of railway water supply, oil supply pipe network monitoring, GPS systems, remote meter reading, electronic cranes, automatic reporting, seismic forecasting, fire prevention, and environmental monitoring.

Usage Features:

  • Easy Installation: First, mount the antenna and connect the power supply (either VCC/GND terminals or power adapter). Ensure the DIP switch is in the correct status.
  • Parameter Setting: The device's parameters can be configured using a dedicated configuration tool. To modify parameters, the mode switch must be set to Mode 3 (Sleep Mode) before connecting to a computer. After configuration, the mode switch must be reopened to achieve transmission.
  • Communication Modes:
    • Mode 0 (Normal Mode): UART and RF are open, enabling transparent transmission. (Default mode)
    • Mode 1 (Wake-up Mode): Air wake-up mode, packets include a wake-up code.
    • Mode 2 (Power-saving Mode): Air wake-up receive mode, saves receive power, but cannot transmit.
    • Mode 3 (Sleep Mode): Used for parameter setting via configuration software.
  • Flexible Power Supply: Supports 8V to 28V DC input, with 12V or 24V recommended for optimal performance.
  • Robust Design: Features an aluminum alloy case for good heat dissipation and shielding, ensuring prime electromagnetic compatibility and strong anti-interference.
  • Watch-dog Functionality: Embedded watch-dog and precise time layout ensure automatic restart upon abnormal situations, maintaining continuous operation with previous parameters.
  • Anti-interference: The LoRa spread spectrum technology and FEC algorism enhance the device's ability to operate reliably in noisy environments. For multiple data transceivers communicating one-to-one in the same area, a channel spacing of 2MHz or more is recommended.
  • Optimized Data Rate: Users can adjust the air data rate. Higher rates mean faster transmission but shorter distances, while lower rates offer better quality and longer distances.

Maintenance Features:

  • Warranty: The device comes with a warranty. Users should keep the warranty card, which contains the factory number and important technical parameters for future maintenance. Damage due to product quality issues is covered by free warranty; self-repair is not recommended.
  • Environmental Considerations:
    • Avoid operating near flammable or explosive materials.
    • Do not use in environments exceeding the specified temperature range (-40°C to +85°C), high humidity, low temperature, strong electromagnetic fields, or dusty conditions.
  • Power Supply Selection: Use a suitable DC stabilized power supply with strong anti-high frequency interference, small ripple, and sufficient load capacity. It should ideally include over-current, over-voltage protection, and lightning protection functions. It is recommended to retain more than 50% of the current margin for stable long-term operation, and the ripple must not exceed 100mV.
  • Grounding: The DTU's ground wire should be well connected to the ground wire of external equipment (PC, PLC, etc.) and the power supply's ground wire to prevent damage to the communication interface.
  • Antenna Connection: Always connect a matching antenna or a 50Ω dummy load when testing or operating the DTU to prevent damage to the transmitter. Maintain a distance of more than 2 meters between the human body and the antenna during transmission to avoid injury.
  • Continuous Transmission: Avoid continuous full-load transmission to prevent the transmitter from burning out.
  • Serial Port Handling: Do not plug or unplug the serial port while the device is powered on.
  • Communication Distance Optimization: If the communication distance is not ideal, analyze and improve it by checking antenna quality and installation methods. Ebyte support can be contacted for assistance.
  • Product Damage: Damage caused by not connecting an impedance-matched antenna, even during short-term tests, will not be covered by the warranty.
