Overview

The Eco-Flo Electric Drill Utility Pump is a versatile and portable pumping device designed for transferring various liquids, primarily clean water and motor oil. It operates by attaching to an electric drill, which powers its impeller to create suction and discharge. The manual covers two models: PUP62 (Drill Pump with Kit) and PUP63 (Drill Pump), both sharing similar operational principles and components.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Eco-Flo Electric Drill Utility Pump is to facilitate the transfer of liquids. It can be used for pumping motor oil out of engines or for moving clean water. The pump is designed for intermittent use, powered by a standard electric drill, making it suitable for various utility tasks where a dedicated pump might be overkill or inconvenient. Its self-priming capability, up to 3 ft. vertically, simplifies initial setup for water transfer. For motor oil, it's designed to work with an adapter tube inserted into the engine's dipstick hole.

Important Technical Specifications:

The pump's performance varies depending on the type of hose used and the drill's RPM.

  • Performance using supplied hoses (1/4in. hose on inlet, 3ft. garden hose on discharge):
    • Rate of Flow at 3,500 RPM: 48 GPH (Gallons Per Hour)
    • Rate of Flow at 800 RPM: 42 GPH
  • Performance using a heavy-duty garden hose on inlet (not supplied) and supplied 3ft garden hose on discharge:
    • Rate of Flow at 3,500 RPM: 260 GPH
    • Rate of Flow at 800 RPM: 60 GPH
  • Maximum Head:
    • At 3,500 RPM: 100 ft.
    • At 800 RPM: 32 ft.
  • Priming: Self-priming up to 3 ft. vertically.
  • Lubrication: Factory lubricated for first-time use. Requires lubrication with vegetable oil before each subsequent use.
  • Liquid Temperature Range: 40°F to 120°F.
  • Minimum Drill Speed for Acceptable Operation: 800 RPM.
  • Optimal Drill Speed: 3500 RPM.

The pump kit (PUP62) includes specific components:

  • Oil tube, 35 in. x 1/4 in. O.D. W/Adapter (3 in. Adapter (3/8 in. O.D., and 1/4 in, I.D.)) - Part Number: 60DRLL005A (Quantity: 1)
  • Pump - Part Number: 60DRLL001 (Quantity: 1)
  • 3ft. x 1/2in. Discharge garden hose with brass female fitting - Part Number: 60DRLL006 (Quantity: 1)

Usage Features:

  • Versatility: Capable of pumping both motor oil and clean water, making it suitable for automotive maintenance and general water transfer tasks.
  • Drill-Powered: Utilizes an electric drill for power, eliminating the need for a separate motor and enhancing portability. Users must ensure the drill is electrically grounded.
  • Easy Assembly: The manual provides clear instructions for connecting hoses and adapter tubes for both oil and water pumping.
  • Self-Priming: Designed to self-prime within 30 seconds for water, up to an 8 ft. vertical lift, provided the suction line is airtight and submerged.
  • Safety Precautions: Emphasizes critical safety measures, including not touching operating motors due to high temperatures, allowing the pump to cool before servicing, preventing freezing, wearing safety glasses, and avoiding use as a booster pump due to explosion risk. It also warns against operating the impeller dry, which can ruin the pump.
  • Hose Recommendations: Advises keeping the suction line as short as possible and using stiff-walled, heavy-duty hoses on the suction side to prevent collapse and ensure proper priming. For water with suspended solids, a strainer is recommended.
  • Motor Oil Pumping: Specifically designed to remove motor oil at room temperature. Users are cautioned not to pump oil if debris or metal shavings are present.
  • Water Pumping: Not recommended for drinking water. Water should also be at room temperature for optimal performance.

Maintenance Features:

  • Impeller Lubrication: Requires lubrication of the impeller with vegetable oil before each use to reduce friction and wear, especially important before starting the pump dry.
  • Flushing: Always flush the pump with clear water after use to prevent residue buildup and extend pump life.
  • Hose Inspection: Regular inspection of hoses for good condition and tight connections is crucial for efficient operation and to prevent air leaks.
  • Impeller and Seal Maintenance: If the front cover is removed for impeller maintenance, it's essential to clean and lubricate the shaft seal, impeller, and O-ring before reassembly.
  • Part Replacement: The manual lists service parts, including the impeller (EFPUP6301) and O-ring (EFPUP6302), indicating that these are replaceable components for extending the pump's lifespan.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: Provides a comprehensive troubleshooting section to address common issues like failure to prime, low flow rate, and leaks, offering probable causes and corrective actions. This includes checking for air leaks, clogged hoses, collapsed hoses, worn impellers, and incorrect drill speed.

The Eco-Flo Electric Drill Utility Pump is a practical tool for light-duty liquid transfer, emphasizing ease of use, portability, and essential maintenance practices to ensure longevity and safe operation.
