Overview

The ECO-FLO™ Drill and Light Weight Portable Utility Pumps are designed for pumping water, suitable for both permanent and temporary installations. These pumps can be placed in a sump pit to pump rainwater containing suspended solid particles 1/4" or less in diameter.

Function Description:

These utility pumps are designed to move water efficiently. The manual highlights several models:

  • PUP61 Light Weight Utility Pump: A standard light-weight utility pump.
  • PUP61DC Light Weight Utility Pump: A DC-powered version of the light-weight utility pump.
  • PUP62 Drill Pump with Kit: A drill-powered pump that comes with a kit, likely including hoses and connectors.
  • PUP63 Drill Pump: Another drill-powered pump model.

The pumps are intended for pumping water and can handle suspended solid particles up to 1/4" in diameter. They are not suitable for pumping chemicals, corrosive liquids (other than motor oil), gasoline, or other flammable liquids.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Cord Capacity: The pump power cord should be connected to a grounded line with a minimum capacity of 15 amps.
  • Solid Particle Handling: Can pump water containing suspended solid particles 1/4" or less in diameter.
  • Voltage and Frequency: The voltage and frequency of the pump must match those available on the mains.
  • Outdoor Cable Length: For outdoor use, a cable with a length of at least 8' is necessary.
  • Overload Protection: The pump series features a built-in thermal protection switch. If an overload condition occurs, the pump stops, and the motor automatically restarts after it has cooled down.
  • Fuse/Circuit Breaker Size: If a fuse or circuit breaker trips, it should be at least 15 amps.

Usage Features:

  • Installation:
    • Before installation or servicing, ensure the pump's power source is disconnected.
    • Installation and electrical wiring must comply with state and local codes and should be completed before priming the pump.
    • Consult appropriate community agencies or local electrical and pump professionals if unsure.
    • If plugging into existing outlets causes low voltage, it can lead to blown fuses, motor overload, or a burned-out motor.
    • For maximum safety, connect the pump to a circuit equipped with a fault interrupter device when positioning the grounding wire.
    • Ensure the power supply voltage matches the pump's voltage.
    • Clear any debris or sediment before installing the pump.
  • Electrical Connection:
    • Verify the pump's voltage and frequency against the mains supply.
    • The electrical system must be grounded according to code.
    • The plug and connection should be protected from water splashes.
    • Always visually inspect the power cable and plug before use, especially for outdoor applications.
    • Do not use the pump if it is damaged; have it inspected by an authorized service center.
    • Protect electrical connections from flooding, and shield the plug and power cable from heat or sharp edges.
    • The power cable must be replaced by qualified personnel only.
    • Grounding is performed by simply inserting the plug, which has a double grounding contact.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Pump does not run and hums: Check if the circuit breaker is off, fuse is blown/loose, or if the pump cord is not making contact. If these are okay, the motor might be malfunctioning.
    • Pump runs but delivers no water: Impeller or volute openings might be clogged (remove and clean). The pump might be air-locked (start and stop several times by plugging/unplugging). Inlet holes in the pump base might be clogged (remove and clean). Vertical pumping distance might be too high (reduce distance or change discharge fittings).
    • Pump runs but delivers small amount of water: Similar to the above, check for air-lock, high vertical pumping distance, clogged strainer/openings, or partially clogged impeller/volute openings.
    • Fuse blows or circuit breaker trips: Impeller might be partially clogged, motor stator could be defective, fuse/circuit breaker might be too small (must be 15 amps), or impeller/volute openings might be clogged.
    • Motor runs for a short time then stops: Inlet holes in pump base might be clogged, impeller partially clogged, motor stator defective, or impeller/volute openings clogged. Clean the strainer if installed.
  • Safety Warnings:
    • DANGER: Keep pump equipment out of reach of children. Failure to follow directions can cause serious risk.
    • WARNING: Failure to follow instructions may damage the pump and/or system.
    • WARNING (Installation): Do not use an extension cord, cut off the ground pin, use an adapter fitting, or work on the pump/switch while plugged in. Do not remove the motor housing, unscrew the impeller, or otherwise remove the impeller seal. Do not run the pump continuously. Do not pump chemicals, corrosive liquids (other than motor oil), gasoline, or flammable liquids. Ensure all piping is clean to prevent clogging.
    • WARNING (Electrical Wire Connection): Verify voltage/frequency, ensure grounding.
    • WARNING (Electrical Precautions): Before servicing, shut off the main power breaker and unplug the pump. Do not stand in water, and wear insulated protective sole shoes under flooded conditions. Contact a local electric company or licensed electrician for disconnecting electrical service before pump removal.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: If the impeller or volute openings are clogged, remove the pump and clean them. Similarly, clean inlet holes in the pump base and the strainer if installed.
  • Inspection: Always inspect the power cable and plug visually before using the pump.
  • Professional Service: If the pump is damaged, have it inspected by an authorized service center. The power cable must be replaced by qualified personnel only.
  • Warranty: The pump is warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship and to perform within applicable specifications for 90 days. The obligation under this warranty is limited to repairing or replacing any defective part returned within two years with transportation charges prepaid. This warranty excludes incidental damages, damage due to transit, misuse, accident, or negligence. No other warranties, express or implied, are provided.
