E C O P H Y S I C S Operating Guide
CLD 780 TR / July 2000 34
5.1 Start up
When the CLD 780 TR and its peripherals are installed in accordance with
section 4, the following procedure applies:
1. Turn “ON“ main switch of the ozone scrubber/pump unit. (Make sure
that the vacuum pump power switch is on, too!)
2. Turn power switch of the CLD 780 TR analyzer to “ON“. The analyzer
identification window appears for about 4 secs and immediately af-
terward the “MEAS” window appears (1). The analyzer is now in the
"Power-up" phase; which is indicated in the upper right hand corner of
the display by the letters “PWUP“.
Make sure that the oxygen cylinder supplying the instrument ozone
generators is open and oxygen is flowing through the overflow tube
(see Fig. 4.2 No. 21, E). As soon as the vacuum pump switches on, the
oxygen flow must be readjusted with the needle valve (see Fig. 4.2
No. 19).
Shortly afterwards the ozone generator start phase begins, indicated
by the letters “O3UP” in the upper right hand corner of the display.
This occurs as soon as the vacuum pump has started and a pressure in
the reaction chambers of less than 100 mbar is reached, and lasts ap-
prox. 5 min. Measurements may be made during this phase, but it is
not yet possible to conduct a calibration cycle since the ozone concen-
tration is not yet stable. When the “O3UP“ indication is replaced by
“MEAS“. then a stable ozone concentration is available.
The appearance of the “MEAS” indication means that the analyzer
has reached full operational status and measurement may begin. It
takes at least 6 minutes to reach this point, assuming that that the
ozone scrubber was already at operating temperature when the in-
strument was switched on. The time taken for the instrument to achieve
a stable zero point will, however, be longer than 6 minutes if it has
been switched off for an extended period.
Caution:
The vacuum pump will switch on automatically when the ozone scrub-
ber reaches the set temperature.
