SHIFTING GEARSSHIFTING GEARS
is motorcycle has ve (4) or (ve (5)) forward gears.
To start riding, aer the engine has been warmed up and the side
stand raised:
1. Close the throttle and squeeze the clutch lever all the way in.
2. Depress the shi lever form neutral down to rst gear.
Once the transmission clicks into gear, the shi lever will
return back to the neutral “N” position once you remove
your foot.
3. Slowly and gradually open the throttle and release the clutch
lever in a simultaneous motion. When you feel the clutch
begin to grab and the motorcycle starts to ease forward, you
have reached the “friction zone” of the clutch. Gradually open
the throttle more and release the clutch lever completely as
the motorcycle moves forward.
4. When you attain moderate speed, close the throttle and squeeze the clutch lever at the same time. Raise
the shi lever until it clicks into second gear. Aer shiing, re-open the throttle and release the clutch
lever.
5. To continue shiing up to each higher gear, repeat step 4.
6. To shi down to a lower gear, close the throttle and pull the clutch. Depress the shi lever until you feel it
click into gear. Aer shiing, re-apply the throttle and release the clutch lever smoothly.
Remember to close the throttle before shifting gears. Improp-
er shifting may damage the engine, transmission, and drive
train.
NOTICE
!
Learning when to shi gears will come with riding experience. Up-shi into a higher gear when you hear the
engine speed (rpm) get too high. When the engine rpm gets too high in a gear, you will feel the motorcycle stop
accelerating. is is another way to know when to up-shi.
Downshi to a lower gear when you feel the engine lugging at a low rpm. Downshiing is usually done when you
slow down for a turn or when you stop the motorcycle. Downshiing into a lower gear can help slow down your
motorcycle, especially when going down-hill. However, down shiing when the engine rpm is too high can cause
engine damage.
e neutral position of the transmission is located between the rst and second gear positions. To shi into neu-
tral, pull the clutch lever in and depress the shi lever as many times as needed to get into rst gear. Once you are
in rst gear, pull up on the shi lever ½ the distance required to up-shi into second gear. You can also shi into
neutral from second gear by depressing the shi lever½ the distance required to downshi into rst gear.
To prevent transmission damage, do not coast or tow the motorcycle for long distances with engine o.
Never attempt to start the engine in gear. Doing so may
cause a crash that could result in serious injury or death.
