8. IMPORTANT: You must tap the <SAVE> button at the bottom of the
client settings screen to complete the data entry process for a server radio.
The server radio's nickname and IP address (or host name) will then be
shown in the "Available Servers" list, in this format: nickname
(IP_or_host_name). If you later make changes to any field, be sure to again
hit <ENTER> on the client settings screen.
9. On the right side of the client settings screen is a field named "Network
Connection" which is used to select the client-server communications
protocol. The default and generally recommended protocol is TCP, which
ensures reliable end-to-end transmission of all commands between client
and server radios. However, with a high-quality/high-speed connection
(e.g. to a local server radio, on the same LAN), it may be desirable to select
UDP protocol. This may result in shorter audio latency.
Establishing a Client Connection
Once you've set up one or more "Available Servers" using the client
settings screen, as described above, you can establish a client-to-server
connection at any time. If you're using a server K4 other than your own, be
sure to obtain permission from the owner and coordinate on operating
times.
1. Tap the globe button to bring up the client settings screen. (If you see
"Server Settings" in the upper right corner, you're in the server settings
screen. Tap the <CLIENT SETTINGS> button.)
2. Tap the name of a server K4 in the "Available Servers" list.
3. Tap <CONNECT>. If the server radio is properly configured, powered on,
and on-line, you'll immediately see the operating screen of the server K4,
and all controls will now apply to it rather than to the client device. (NOTE:
Menu entries that control the server radio will be so indicated by a globe
icon at the far right side of the menu screen. Those without this icon apply
to the client device.)
