The provided manual describes the Elevate Aluminum Headache Rack (Part #AHAR), a device designed to protect a truck's rear window from shifting cargo and to assist in hauling long items.

Function Description

The Aluminum Headache Rack is primarily designed to be installed behind a pickup truck's rear window. Its main function is to protect the window from impact caused by cargo shifting forward in the truck bed. Additionally, its upper frame features extension uprights that facilitate the safe hauling of long cargo, such as ladders and pipes. The rack is designed for bolt-on installation, specifically for trucks equipped with stake pockets.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Width Adjustment: The rack is adjustable in width, extending from 62 inches to 74 inches wide, allowing it to fit a variety of truck beds.
  • Installation Type: Bolt-on installation, utilizing the truck's stake pockets.
  • Materials: Constructed from aluminum, as indicated by the product name.
  • Hardware: The assembly involves various bolts, washers, and mounting plates:
    • M12x30 Outer Hexagonal Bolt Full Thread (Quantity: 4)
    • M12x75 External Hexagonal Bolt Full Thread (Quantity: 4)
    • 12 Spring Washer (Quantity: 8)

  • Components: The main structural components include a Frame (1), Right Fixed Seat (1), and Left Fixed Seat (1).

Usage Features

  • Cargo Protection: Provides a physical barrier to protect the rear window from shifting loads.
  • Long Cargo Hauling: Extension uprights on the upper frame allow for secure transport of items like ladders and pipes.
  • Adjustable Width: The rack's adjustable width ensures compatibility with most truck beds.
  • Secure Installation: The installation process involves bolting the rack to the truck's stake pockets and, for added reinforcement, drilling additional holes to secure it to flat panel mounting plates.
  • Safety Guidelines: The manual emphasizes several safety measures for proper usage:
    • Always wear ANSI approved safety goggles and hearing protection in noisy environments.
    • Use safety equipment such as safety shoes, hard hat, and work gloves.
    • Dress appropriately, avoiding loose clothing or jewelry, and containing long hair.
    • Never modify the product.
    • Do not use the rack to secure people or animals, or climb/hang on it while the vehicle is moving.
    • Adhere to all Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) requirements for securing cargo.
    • Ensure the vehicle's engine is OFF and the parking brake is set during setup, loading, and unloading.
    • Periodically check the load during transit to ensure cargo remains tightly secured.
    • Keep the work area clean and well-lit, and keep spectators and children away.
    • Do not operate while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medications.

Maintenance Features

  • Regular Inspection: Users are instructed to frequently check the condition of the rack, ensuring all components are in good condition and clean.
  • Hardware Tightness: It is crucial to check that all hardware is tightly secured in place.
  • Replacement Policy: If the product becomes damaged through use, it should be replaced entirely, as replacement parts are not offered. This implies the rack is designed as a single, non-repairable unit in case of significant damage.
  • Shipping Damage: The manual advises inspecting the product prior to signing for delivery. Any damage incurred during shipping, if not noted on the Bill of Lading at the time of delivery, voids the warranty.

The manufacturer explicitly states that parts and/or instructions are subject to change without notice and that common sense should be used when operating the product.

Warranty Information

The product comes with a GENERAL PRODUCT WARRANTY for one year from the date of accepted delivery, covering defects in material and workmanship. This warranty is non-transferable and applies only to the original end purchaser. It explicitly states that warranty claims must be made directly to the original place of purchase (Authorized Dealer). The warranty covers replacement of defective or malfunctioning parts, including shipping costs, but the purchaser is responsible for labor charges.
