2.1 Product range
These application guidelines cover Copeland scroll variable-speed compressor models
YHV*RG and YHV*RT for heat pump applications. Compressors YHV*RG for use with R290
ref rigerant have a speed range of 1100 to 5500 rpm. Compressors YHV*RT for use with R454C
ref rigerant have a speed range of 1300 to 5500 rpm. They f eature a three-phase brushless
permanent magnet (BPM) motor which is controlled by an Emerson ED3 or EV3 motor control drive,
ref erred to as the "ED3/EV3 drive" or "drive" throughout these guidelines.

2.2 Matched pairs of compressor and drive
The YHV*RG/RT compressors with motor code "X9" are unprotected compressors and are offered
in matched pairs with the ED3 or EV3 drive, designed in accordance with EN 60335-1. The motor
protection is implemented in the ED3/EV3 drive.
The matched pairs have been designed for maximum efficiency and reliability. The drive will power
the compressor, control the compressor running speed, provide compressor and drive protection and
communicate with the master controller in Modbus RTU protocol. The drive requires cooling and is
typically installed in the unit near the compressor. To optimize drive efficienc y and to limit
electromagnetic interferences, the drives have to be installed with all mandatory accessories as per
the ED3 & EV3 User Manuals.
