3 INSTALLATION

3.1 Care in handling

Handle pressure relief valves carefully to prevent damage and ensure proper operation.

4 HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE TESTS

4.1 Hydrostatic test of vessel or system

Recommended to remove valve. If in place, use test gag carefully to avoid valve damage.

5 SETTING, TESTING AND ADJUSTMENTS

5.7 Set pressure changes

Changes beyond spring range require new spring assembly and restamping.

5.8 Set pressure adjustment

Adjust set pressure using adjusting bolt. Reduce pressure before adjustment to prevent seat damage.

5.9 Nozzle ring settings

Adjust nozzle ring for blowdown and simmer. Seldom necessary in field.

5.10 Cold differential test pressure adjustments

Adjust test pressure for temperature and back pressure to match actual service conditions.

5.11 Seat leakage tests

Tests seat tightness using API standard 527. Defines acceptable leakage rates for metal/soft seats.

6 VALVE MAINTENANCE

6.1 Visual inspection and neutralizing

Visually inspect valves for deposits or corrosion. Neutralize hazardous materials before disassembly.

6.5 Reconditioning of valve seats

Lap seating surfaces to restore original condition. Machine if damage is too severe.

6.6 Assembly

Assemble components cleanly, lubricating threads and surfaces. Follow specific steps for each part.

6.7 Restricted lift valves

Details on restricted lift versions, including spacer selection and lift measurement.
