10 DISPOSAL AT END OF USEFUL LIFE
Penberthy gagecocks are used in a variety of
fluid applications. By following the appropriate
federal and industry regulations, the user
must determine the extent of preparation and
treatment the gagecock must incur before its
disposal. A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
may be required before disposal services
accept certain components.

If you are having difficulty with your Series500
or 700 gagecocks, contact your local Penberthy
distributor. You may also contact the factory
direct at (956) 430-2500 and ask for an
applications engineer. So that we may assist
you more effectively, please have as much of
the following information available as possible
when you call:
Model #
Name of the company from whom you
purchased your gagecock
Invoice # and date
Process conditions (pressure, flow rates,
tankshape, etc)
A brief description of the problem
Trouble shooting procedures that failed
If attempts to solve your problem fail, you may
request to return your gagecock to the factory
for intensive testing. You must obtain a Return
Authorization (R.A.) number from Emerson
before returning anything. Failure to do so will
result in the unit being returned to you without
being tested, freight collect. To obtain an R.A.
number, the following information (in addition
to that above) is needed:

There is a minimum charge for evaluation
of non-warranty units. You will be contacted
before any repairs are initiated should the cost
exceed the minimum charge. If you return a
unit under warranty, but it is not defective, the
minimum charge will apply.
9 CERTIFICATION OF MODELS 550 AND 750
OS&Y FUGITIVE EMISSION GAGECOCKS
Penberthy fugitive emission gagecocks are
individually serialized and tested to meet EPA
emission test requirements. Each gagecock
is shipped with its individual test report that
certifies less than 5 ppm leak rates, using
Kalrez
®
and PTFE as the packing material.
Refer to product proposal information for
packing materials other than Kalrez
®
and PTFE.
6. Tighten stem packing follower screws.
Note: yoke and stem packing follower
screws should be tightened evenly to insure
even compression of the yoke gasket/O-ring
and stem packing.
7. For gagecocks equipped with a union
connection, place the tailpipe on the body
and tighten in place with the coupling nut.
8. For gagecocks equipped with a stuffing box
connection:
a. Place the tubular packing nut, tubular
packing gland and tubular packing on
each end of the gage connection.
b. With upper gagecock turned ⅛ turn
counterclockwise from vertical, insert
the top gage connection into the stuffing
box connection of the upper gagecock.
To insure clearance of the lower
gagecock stuffing box connection, slide
the gage connection into the upper
gagecock as far as it permits.
c. Tighten the upper gagecock to the
original position while holding the gage
with upward force to insure clearance
of the lower gagecock stuffing box
connection.
Check vertical alignment of the
gagecocks.
d. Slide the gage assembly down into the
lower gagecock stuffing box connection
to a positive stop.
e. Tighten the tubular packing nut on both
the upper and lower gagecock.
Refer to Section 6 for operation of the gagecock
when returned to service.
Metal, glass and polymers should be recycled
whenever possible. Refer to order and
applicable technical data sheets for materials
of construction.
