SDU 24-BATEM External Battery

qualied service personnel. Do not attempt to service this product yourself. Never work alone.

WARNING – Servicing of batteries should be performed or supervised by personnel knowledgeable of batteries and the required precautions. Keep

unauthorized personnel away from the batteries. PROPER DISPOSAL OF BATTERIES IS REQUIRED. REFER TO YOUR LOCAL LAWS AND

REGULATIONS FOR BATTERY DISPOSAL REQUIREMENTS.

CAUTION – Always disconnect this External Battery Module from the SDU Power module before replacing the batteries.

CAUTION – When replacing the batteries, use the same number and type of batteries. See the “SDU 24-BATEM Battery Replacement Instructions” section

below for battery manufacturer and type required for replacement.

CAUTION – Do not dispose of battery or batteries in a re. The battery may explode.

Do not open or mutilate the battery or batteries. Released electrolyte is harmful to skin and eyes. It may be toxic.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

1. SDU 24-BATEM: External battery module.

2. SDU 24-EXTBC6: Pair of 6 foot polarized cables for connecting the external battery module to the power module

NOTE: The circuit breaker must be in the open position “O” prior to installation.

SDU 24-BATEM INSTALLATION

The SDU 24-BATEM can be installed as stand alone equipment. The NEMA 1 enclosure features removable cover and knockout holes to ease the

installation process.

If necessary, the black and red terminals of the polarized cable SDU 24-EXTBC6 can be detached from one another to separate the black wire from the red wire

and allow them to slide easily through the conduit.

Before closing the circuit breaker of SDU 24-BATEM, make sure that one end of the red terminals of the polarized cable is connected to the red terminal of the

SDU DC UPS power module and the other red terminal end of the polarized cable is connected to the red terminal of the external battery module SDU 24-BATEM.

The same approach applies to the black terminals.

Usage Features:

Extended Runtime: The primary feature is to significantly extend the backup runtime of SDU 10-24B and SDU 20-24B UPS units. For example, with an SDU 10-24B and one SDU 24-BATEM, the runtime at 20% (2A) load increases from 135 minutes to 52 minutes (for the SDU 10-24B alone) to 135 minutes. At 100% (10A) load, it increases from 14 minutes to 19 minutes. Similarly, for an SDU 20-24B with one SDU 24-BATEM, the runtime at 20% (4A) load increases from 48 minutes to 17 minutes (for the SDU 20-24B alone) to 48 minutes. At 100% (20A) load, it increases from 4 minutes to 6 minutes.
Simple Installation: The SDU 24-BATEM can be installed as a standalone equipment. The NEMA 1 enclosure features removable cover and knockout holes to ease the installation process. The manual provides clear instructions for connecting the external battery module to the power module, including diagrams for both SDU 10-24B and SDU 20-24B configurations.

4. Removing failed batteries and inserting new replaceable batteries.
5. Sliding the bracket forward inside the enclosure, securing the bracket in place, and using the four (4) screws to mount the bracket on the enclosure.
6. Using the following connection diagram to ensure the correct batteries connection to the polarized terminal connector and to the circuit breaker.
7. Sliding the top cover on the enclosure then using the four (4) screws for a secure mounting.
Battery Type: The recommended replacement battery is a CSB GP1272, a 12 V dc, 7.2 Ah battery. It is crucial to use only the specified battery type to ensure proper operation and safety.
Safety Precautions: The manual emphasizes several safety precautions during battery replacement, including:
- Removing rings, watches, and other metal objects.
- Not using tools or other metal objects on top of the batteries.
- Not disposing of batteries in a fire, as they may explode.
- Disposing of old batteries according to local codes.
