EAOM-36 Manual Start Unit use microprocessor based technology to provide integrated manual start and
fault protection in a wide range of engine applications. The module is housed in 72x72 DIN size. The module is
used to start and stop the engine, indicating the operational status and fault conditions. Automatically shutting
down the engine and indicating the engine failure by a flashing LED. User can control the engine via a two position
key switch and pushbuttons mounted on the front panel or with remote input.
The module has three application feature; 'Generator', 'Pump' or 'Fire Pump'. (can be selected from
parameter P00).
The module can connect directly with engine, thanks to high current relay outputs.
The module has two feature for fuel. One of “energize to run” the other “energize to stop”.
The module protect the engine against fault conditions. If a fault condition occurred, the module indicate the fault
condition and shut-down the engine.
If the key switch is OFF position the module has zero power consumption to save energy. The module energizes
when the key switch position is getting ON position. If Satart button is pressed, the Conf. Out relay output (if selected
preheat output) will activate until the preheat delay is expired.
Press Start button for starting the engine. When engine is running, module will stop the cranking.
Also the module has remote start facility. Please select suitable type of remote start for your application from
program parameters. If remote start input is active the module will start the engine. If remote start is passive the unit will
stop the engine.
The module will check the alarms aftersafety on timer is expired.
Under one of this fault conditions the module will stop the engine;
- Over speed (generator application),
- Under speed(generator application),
- High Temperature,
- Low Oil Pressure,
- Shutdown (if one of conf. input selected shutdown and activated).
To reset the fault, turn the key switch to the OFF position for a few seconds.
The Charge Failure is a warning alarm so the engine continue to work under this failure condition. Also this input
supplying charge alternator excitation current.
Shutdown the engine;
If the engine fuel type is “energize to stop”, press Stop button until the engine comes to rest. After that select OFF
position of the key switch.
If the engine fuel type is “energize to run”, select OFF position of the key switch.
Important note: On the Fire Pump application; If a fault condition occurred, the module will not stop the engine.
The engine will be stopped only when the stop button was pressed or the remote stop signal was detected.
User can select the
feature from program parameters.

Overview

The EMKO EAOM-36 Manual Start Unit is a microprocessor-based device designed for integrated manual start and fault protection in a wide range of engine applications, including generators, pumps, and fire pumps. It is housed in a 72x72 DIN size.

Function Description:

The module's primary function is to start and stop an engine, provide operational status, and indicate fault conditions. It automatically shuts down the engine and signals engine failure via a flashing LED. Users can control the engine through a two-position key switch and pushbuttons on the front panel, or via a remote input. The EAOM-36 offers three application features: 'Generator,' 'Pump,' or 'Fire Pump,' selectable via parameter P00. It connects directly to the engine using high-current relay outputs. The module supports two fuel features: "energize to run" or "energize to stop," which can be selected through program parameters. It protects the engine against fault conditions, indicating the fault and shutting down the engine when a fault occurs.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Equipment Use: Electrical control equipment for generating sets.
  • Housing & Mounting: 72 mm x 72 mm x 52 mm.
  • Panel Cut-out: 68 mm x 68 mm.
  • Protection: NEMA4X (IP30 at front panel, IP20 at rear side).
  • Weight: Approximately 0.5 kg.
  • Environmental Rating: Standard, indoor at an altitude of less than 2000 meters with non-condensing humidity.
  • Operating / Storage Temperature: -25°C to +70°C / -40°C to +85°C.
  • Operating / Storage Humidity: 90% max. (Non-condensing).
  • Installation Over Voltage Cat.: II appliances, portable equipment.
  • Pollution Degree: II, Normal office or workplace, non-conductive pollution.
  • Mode of Operation: Continuous.
  • EMC: EN-61000-6-4 (emission), EN-61000-6-2 (immunity).
  • Electrical Safety: EN-61010-1 (safety requirements for electrical equipment for measurement, control and laboratory use).
  • Supply Voltage: 8-32 VDC.
  • Generator Speed Measurement: From generator voltage.
  • Alternator Frequency Range: 15.6 to 99.9 Hz (15 to 300 VL-N~ RMS).
  • Frequency Meas. Accuracy: 0.5%.
  • Cranking Dropouts: Battery voltage can be 0V for max. 100ms during cranking (battery voltage should be at least nominal voltage before cranking).
  • Relay Outputs:
    • Start relay: 10A@28VDC.
    • Fuel relay: 10A@28VDC.
    • Conf. Out relay: 10A@28VDC.
  • Failure Indicators: Failed to engine start, High engine temperature, Low oil pressure, Speed failure, Battery charge failure, General failure.
  • Status Indicators: Hz./RPM, Engine running time, Engine start, Engine stop.

Usage Features:

  • Zero Power Consumption: When the key switch is in the OFF position, the module consumes no power, saving energy.
  • Engine Start Sequence: The module energizes when the key switch is turned ON. Pressing the START button activates the Conf. Out relay output (if preheat is selected) until the preheat delay expires. Once the engine starts, the module stops cranking.
  • Remote Start Facility: The module supports remote start, with suitable types selectable from program parameters. If the remote start input is active, the engine will start. If the remote start is passive, the unit will stop the engine.
  • Alarm Monitoring: The module checks for alarms after the safety on timer expires.
  • Fault Conditions and Shutdown: The module stops the engine under various fault conditions, including over speed (generator application), under speed (generator application), high temperature, low oil pressure, and shutdown (if a configured input is selected and activated).
  • Fault Reset: To reset a fault, turn the key switch to the OFF position for a few seconds.
  • Charge Failure: This is a warning alarm, allowing the engine to continue operating under this condition. This input also supplies charge alternator excitation current.
  • Engine Shutdown:
    • If the engine fuel type is "energize to stop," press the STOP button until the engine comes to rest, then select the OFF position of the key switch.
    • If the engine fuel type is "energize to run," select the OFF position of the key switch.
  • Fire Pump Application Note: In Fire Pump applications, if a fault condition occurs, the module will not stop the engine. The engine will only stop when the STOP button is pressed or a remote stop signal is detected.

Maintenance Features:

  • Fuse Protection: The manual provides guidelines for fuse selection: FUSE-1 (according to current required by solenoids, Max. 16A. T) and FUSE-2 (Max. 1A. T).
  • Wiring Diagrams: Detailed connection schematics are provided for different configurations: without remote start, with remote signal, and for fail-safe applications, aiding in proper installation and troubleshooting.
