Summary

Receiving and Storage of Batteries

Receiving the Shipment

Inspect battery shipment upon arrival for transit damage and verify contents against the packing slip.

Storage Guidelines

Store batteries in a dry, clean, and cool location. Adhere to recommended storage intervals based on temperature.

Battery Installation

Installation Environment

Install in a clean, dry area. Avoid high temperatures and direct sunlight for optimal service life.

Ventilation Requirements

Ensure adequate ventilation, especially in cabinets, as batteries release gas during normal operation.

Battery Stowing Recommendations

EnerSys® battery racks and cabinets are recommended for proper installation.

Battery Charging Procedures

Commissioning Charge

Perform a commissioning charge using a constant voltage charger at specific Vpc levels for 24 or 72 hours.

Float Voltage Settings

Maintain a float voltage of 2.27 Vpc at 77°F (25°C), adjusting for temperature variations.

Equalize Charge

An equalize charge can be performed at an elevated voltage of 2.40 Vpc for up to 16 hours.

Ripple Current Limitations

Limit continuous ripple current to prevent damage and maintain service life, refer to Table 1.

Charging Current and State of Charge

Use current-limited, constant voltage charging. State of charge determined by open circuit voltage.

Battery Discharging and Maintenance

End of Discharge Voltage

Limit the end of discharge voltage to a minimum of 1.60 Vpc to prevent deep discharge.

Post-Discharge Handling

Immediately return discharged batteries to float recharge mode to avoid reduced service life.

Maintenance and Record Keeping

Batteries are maintenance-free. Record individual voltages, resistance, and ambient temperature annually.
