Overview

The SG-WRITERII is an application manual for a programmable oscillator PROM writer, designed for general consumer use. It facilitates the programming and testing of various Seiko Epson programmable oscillators, including the SG-8018, SG-8101, SG-9101, SG-85xx, SG-8002, and SG-8003 series. The device connects to a PC via a USB cable (mini B) and requires specific software and drivers for operation.

Function Description

The SG-WRITERII serves as an interface between a personal computer and Seiko Epson programmable oscillators, allowing users to:

  • Program Oscillators: Write specific frequency, voltage, temperature, OE function, slew rate, tolerance, and SS function (for SG-9101) parameters onto the oscillator devices.
  • Check Device Operation: Verify the programmed settings or confirm if a device is blank.
  • Calculate Frequencies: In a dedicated calculation mode, the software can determine if a specific frequency is writable and perform related calculations without actually programming a device.
  • Test Devices: After programming, the device can perform tests to verify written data and compare output frequency with acceptable deviation.

The software interface is designed with distinct sections for different oscillator series, each offering specific parameter inputs relevant to that series. For instance, the SG-8018/SG-8101/SG-9101 interface allows selection of model name, package type, frequency, Vcc, temperature, OE function, slew rate, tolerance, and SS function. The SG-85xx interface includes model name, output frequency (up to four distinct frequencies), supply voltage, OE polarity, OE standby type, and I2C slave address. The SG-8002/SG-8003 interface provides options for device type, package, output frequency, OE terminal function, HTC (power voltage and output wave form), and rank (frequency accuracy).

Usage Features

1. Driver and Software Installation:

  • USB Driver: Separate drivers are provided for Windows 10/7/Vista (32bit/64bit) and Windows XP (32bit). Installation involves running dpinst.exe and following a wizard. For Windows XP, manual selection of the driver directory is required.
  • Software: Copy SGWriter.exe and associated DLL files (Sglib.dll, SGWriterLib03.dll, SGWriterLib04.dll, mfc100.dll, msvcr100.dll) to the same directory. The software requires .NET Framework 4.
  • Uninstall Procedure: Drivers can be uninstalled via "Control Panel" -> "Uninstall a program" (Windows 10/7/Vista) or "Device Manager" (Windows XP).

2. Programming Operation:

  • Parameter Entry: Users input desired parameters (frequency, voltage, etc.) into the software interface.
  • Check Parameter: A "CheckParameter" button verifies if programming is possible with the entered settings.
  • Device Placement: The oscillator device must be correctly placed in the PROM WRITER socket with the lever up for SMD devices (an adapter socket is needed). The lever is then lowered to secure the device.
  • Writing: Click the "Burn" or "Write" button to program the device. A "Programming is completed!!" message indicates success; otherwise, an error message is displayed.
  • Static Electricity Precaution: Always remove static electricity with a wrist strap before handling the product.

3. Check Device Operation:

  • Placement: Place the programmed device in the PROM WRITER socket.
  • Execution: Click the "CheckDevice" button.
  • Verification: The software displays the programmed settings or a "Blank Sample" message in the message box.

4. Calculation Mode:

  • The software can be launched in a calculation-only mode if the SG-WRITERII is not connected to the PC. This allows users to perform calculations and check frequency writability without programming. To switch to programming mode, exit the software, connect the SG-WRITERII, and relaunch.

5. Configuration Button:

  • Accessed via a dedicated button, this feature allows setting write conditions and user levels (Customer Default, Distributor, Field Engineer).
  • Engineer Name: For Distributor level, users can enter company and user names (up to 16 characters).
  • Version Display: Shows current hardware and software versions.
  • Function Check: Displays content of Function Test (read-only).
