Usage Features

The KC MAX is designed for user-friendly operation. It automatically recognizes Evolis High Trust® ribbons upon insertion, optimizing print quality and preventing damage. For optimal print quality, ISO 7810 certified cards are recommended. Users should avoid touching the printable surface of cards and ensure cards are free from damage, folds, or static electricity. When inserting cards, it is crucial to align them properly in the feeder to prevent jamming or loading issues. The weight in the feeder must be correctly positioned to ensure proper card feeding. The printer's control panel indicates its operational status, lighting up when powered on.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the KC MAX printer, particularly for the print head, which is a wear part. Evolis provides an Evolis High Trust® maintenance kit, including adhesive cards, pre-soaked "T" shaped cards, a cleaning pen, and wipes.

Printer Cleaning: The printer features a cleaning warning system that triggers after a certain number of cards have been inserted.

  • Recommended cleaning cycle: Whenever the ribbon is changed.
  • Mandatory cleaning cycle: When the cleaning warning is triggered.
  • Servicing accessory: Pre-soaked T-shaped card and adhesive cleaning card.
  • Cleaning frequency: In clean environments, cleaning is required after 1000 cards (warning light flashing), with warranty voided after 1200 cards (warning light steady) if cleaning is not performed. In dusty environments, cleaning is recommended after every 500 cards.
  • Cleaning procedure:
    1. Open the printer cover.
    2. Remove the ribbon.
    3. Close the cover.
    4. Double-click the control button.
    5. Insert the "T" shaped cleaning card into the bezel, ensuring it's not inserted too deeply. The printer will detect it and start cleaning.
    6. Remove the "T" shaped card once cleaning is finished.
    7. Remove the film from the adhesive card and insert it adhesive side up into the bezel.
    8. Remove the adhesive cleaning card once cleaning is finished.
    9. Wait 2 minutes after cleaning before using the printer.

Servicing the Print Head:

  • Recommended cleaning cycle: Whenever the ribbon is changed.
  • Servicing accessory: Special cotton swab impregnated with isopropyl alcohol or cleaning pen.
  • Important precautions: Avoid contact between the print head and any metal or sharp objects. Do not touch the print head directly with fingers to prevent damage or affect print quality.
  • Cleaning procedure:
    1. Take an Evolis cotton swab and press the middle of the tube to soak the end in alcohol.
    2. Open the cover and locate the print head.
    3. Gently rub the swab from left to right along the print head for a few seconds.
    4. Close the cover.
    5. Wait 2 minutes after cleaning before using the printer.

Maintenance of the Dust Filter: The dust filter, located above the ventilator for the print head, should be cleaned once a year or after 10,000 cards, depending on the work environment.

  • Cleaning procedure:
    1. Open the printer cover and locate the dust filter.
    2. Remove the filter by pulling it up and sliding it to release.
    3. Once removed, clean the filter by wiping each side.
    4. Insert the filter back into place (groove facing you) and push it down until it clicks into position.
    5. Close the cover.

Failure to adhere to the servicing procedures, especially regarding print head cleaning, will void the print head warranty. The use of non-Evolis approved ribbons can also affect print quality and printer operation, potentially voiding the manufacturer's warranty for physical damage or quality issues.
