ENGINE OIL
PAY ATTENTION TO THE FOLLOWING!
Change the engine oil after the first 1000 km/
625 miles. For subsequent oil changes, follow
the instructions given on the chart on page
74, using the lubricants recommended on
page 130.
The gear oil is:
- harmful by inhalation, if swallowed or in
contact with skin, with possible serious con-
sequences;
- irritating to skin;
- harmful for the environment.
To be avoided:
- contact with skin;
- inhalation of vapours;
- ingestion;
- release to the environment;
- exposure to air.
If swallowed do NOT induce vomiting but seek
medical advice immediately (first aid post), indicat-
ing the cause and how the accident occurred.
After contact with skin, wash the aected part
immediately with soap and water, repeating the
operation until there are no more residues.
In case of contact with eyes or ears, rinse the
aected parts immediately with plenty of water
and seek medical advice immediately (first aid
post), indicating the cause and how the accident
occurred.
After contact with clothes, remove contaminated
articles and wash immediately with plenty of
water and soap. Substitute the contaminated
clothes, which must be cleaned appropriately as
soon as possible.
If gear oil is accidentally spilt on the floor or in
other areas, clean the contaminated area.
Always wear latex gloves to protect hands when
carrying out maintenance.
Always close the gear oil cap properly after every
topping up.
KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
DISPOSE OF THE OIL AT A SPECIAL WASTE
COLLEC
TION POINT.
The used gear oil must be put in a sealed con-
tainer and taken to the nearest service station or
to a waste oil collection point where it will be
disposed of correctly.
CHECKING TRANSMISSION OIL
You should wear gloves when doing this.
NOTE:
do not perform this check with the motor-
cycle resting on the kickstand.
Place the vehicle on a flat surface.
NOTE:
place the vehicle on a suitable support
and make sure it is straight.
Start the engine and let it warm up for a few
minutes. Then turn it o.
Check the motor oil. Its level should be between
the minimum level “L” and the maximum level “H”.
If it is below the minimum level, add recom-
mended motor oil until the correct level is
reached.
NOTE:
before you check the motor oil, wait a
few minutes for it to settle. Do not screw in the
motor oil fill cap (dipstick) “1” when checking
the oil.
ATTENTION:
-
The engine oil also lubricates the clutch. The
wrong oil or chemical additives may cause
the clutch to slip. Therefore, do not add
chemical additives or use motor oil a grade
of “CD” “C” or higher and do not use oil with
the label “ENERGY CONSERVING II” “d”.
-
Do not allow foreign material to enter the
crankcase.
